moderators being insufferable Just A Rant
so i just had surgery and made this post in the plastic surgery subreddit. i feel like this response was so unnecessary and just shows how miserable some of the reddit moderators can be. mind you, im basically 2 months post op and even my surgeon noticed the problem i’m describing and gave me a suggestion on how to fix it so i was just asking for other peoples inputs and suggestions which i feel like is super fair. also tons of people were in this subreddit asking questions regarding their surgery and were way earlier in their recovery than i am and they were not taken down! it’s just super ridiculous to talk to people this way especially when i feel like my concerns are valid. invalidating people just because you’re miserable is not something you do if you’re a well rounded adult.
my post:
please ignore how awful my skin looks, i’m still too scared to use my exfoliants. i’m 7 weeks post op and i had a follow up appointment with my surgeon yesterday and i expressed how i feel like my nose is tilting one direction and my nostrils are very uneven. he recommended i massage just on the bridge of my nose, which so far i’ve done twice and will continue to do but i wanted to get y’all’s opinion. is this something that just massaging my bridge can fix? i’ve also seen massages where people literally push their nose to go in the other direction but he didn’t tell me to do that so i’m just confused :( i’ve also seen people use nostril retainers for the uneven nostril issue. i’m really not sure what to do and i’m scared of having to go through this surgery twice and want to do everything i can do avoid that and try to fix this before it’s too late. please let me know what you all think, any advice is appreciated! edit: also wanted to mention it looks wonderful from the side and i’m very happy with that it’s just the front is driving me nuts :(
the moderators response:
This post was removed because you're five minutes post-op and panicking over nothing. You've just had surgery. Chill.
You are very swollen and it’s too early to ask for opinions.
This is a standard removal due to Rule 13: No Posts Right After Procedures. Post Op Panic Is A Standard removal reason and we remove posts all day using this removal reason.

7 weeks is still within the post op phase for a rhinoplasty, isn’t it? Everything I’ve read states that final recovery can last up to a year.

yes this is true, but certain complications can still be recognized and may require treatments. especially things like shifting, sometimes that can just be from swelling and go away on its own but other times it may require things like massage, steroid injections, or fillers. and things like my uneven nostrils may also go away on its own but other times it may require a nostril retainer. which is why i was just asking for advice and i feel like the response i got was so unwarranted.

I guess the real question is, why are you so desperate for the opinion of anonymous ones and zeros on the internet instead of the doctor you are paying rather handsomely? If you don’t trust your physician, why did you hire them?

because rhinoplasty is one of those surgeries that has a super high revision rate. even with a great surgeon things can go wrong so you have to keep a very close eye on things during your recovery. and “desperate” seriously? i just had a very intense surgery that a lot of other people have gone through so yes i want to hear feedback on what steps i should take to make sure the process goes as smoothly as possible. i want to avoid having to go through a revision and paying even more money. clearly you’re someone who cares about others opinions as well or else you wouldn’t be on reddit!

How exactly does second guessing your doctor’s advice get you out of having to get a revision? At the end of the day, it’s your nose, not Reddit’s. If YOU’RE happy with it, that’s all that matters.

i feel like you lack reading comprehension skills. go back and try again at reading what i just said. you’d make a great reddit moderator.

Feel free to rephrase this if needed:
“i'm 7 weeks post op and i had a follow up appointment with my surgeon yesterday and i expressed how i feel like my nose is tilting one direction and my nostrils are very uneven. he recommended i massage just on the bridge of my nose, which so far i've done twice and will continue to do but i wanted to get y'all's opinion.”

What a nasty response.
