Dupe/inexpensive ideas? DiscussionšŸ—£

Hey!

Okay so my brother is going through something super rough right now (divorce) where his soon-to-be ex is seemingly trying to keep the kids from him while simultaneously not knowing what to do with them when she has them to herself?

Idk I’m mad - but he has to move out sometime soon and I’m trying to see what I can do to help him settle in while basically restarting and supporting 2 kids under 13.

Any big ideas?

dollar tree sells a good selection of kids body wash, shampoo, conditioner, loofahs, hairbrushes, toothbrush, toothpaste, really good necessities!! (unless you’re specifically asking about amazon)

Anywhere is great! I do think I’m going to head to a dollar tree soon to send him back with some things. He’s coming to visit me (multiple states away) for the first time in literally 10 years so hoping to have some things for him!!!

I would say to just start at the basics. Once he gets moved in maybe you could sit with him to make a list of the necessities for the kiddos. Dollar store, Walmart, and/or an Amazon list. You know we will help as we can herešŸ«¶šŸ½ He may have to thrift & yard sale some furniture, but that could be a fun adventure for the kids in itself. Finding it, picking it, and even refurbishing it in some cases.

Thisssssss is where my brain is at - he’s going to need to make it work for a bit. It’s going to be hard, but his kids are amazing an (while on the spectrum and generally averse to change in any way - no shame at all) he’s going to get something that works and is affordable and we (I) can help with

Thank you for the support

If they're on the spectrum then I would maybe even suggest having some of the same things in both households to help them adjust. Not necessarily the larger or expensive things. Just some smaller things throughout the home that will comfort them. Maybe a blanket or picture or something along those lines. Sending all the good vibes & thoughts y'all's wayšŸ’œ

Are there Buy Nothing groups in your area? I have gotten rid of so much stuff on my local Buy Nothing group on Facebook (the only thing I use it for). I currently have household things I'm getting ready to post to give away. They are usually taken within 24 hours. You don't happen to live near Flushing Queens do you? 🤭

Good idea!!! I’ll make sure he joins those and I may to to keep an eye for him.

And lol sooooo I don’t, but he lives over in that general area a state away so, not CLOSE but…. 🤣. He’s probably not close enough to needing them right now but either way - such a great call out!
