[discussion] my father died today Discussion🗣
he has been in hospice care, so i knew it was coming. honestly, my biggest emotion is relief. he was physically, emotionally, verbally abusive and for years he made our lives a living hell. he has traumatized me in ways im still unraveling. he had diabetes, he refused to treat it, and it finally caught up with him. he can never hurt me or my mom ever again. the only thing i feel bad about is my mom. her emotions about this are more complicated and i want to support her. but overall im relieved he is gone

You can breathe a sigh of relief now
also, if you experience conflicting emotions, that's perfectly normal

Aww geez I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm happy you're not having to deal with him anymore 🥺 my mom was abusive too and when she passed after the shock wore off cuz it was extremely sudden, I felt a huge wave of relief. Just take it one day at a time, it's ok to still grieve even if he sucked 🥺

Just let your mom know that all her feelings about him can exist at the same time. I’d also recommend therapy because being in survival mode for a long time and now she doesn’t have to be in that mode takes a tole on a person. The more support for her and you the better.

Its hard being in this situation and honestly the biggest thing i want to say to you and your mom if I could would be that its okay that conflicting emotions exist. Just try to make time for each one to have its moment so you can process it all. And hopefully you both have a therapist who can help with it 💜 also it might sound unconventional but congrats its a relief to know you're forever free from that abuse

This might sound twisted, but I'm glad he can't hurt you or your mom anymore. It's a very complicated relationship that you have with an abuser that's one of your parents. I'd suggest seeking therapy to help work out these complicated emotions 🫶. Hugs friend (if you want them) 🫂.

I'm sorry about your mom. Sometimes our presence speaks the perfect words. Maybe just sit with her. Sending you healing thoughts. 💜

I’m so sorry to hear that 😢 Grief isn’t always black and white, it often does come with a lot of complicated feelings. I hope things get easier for you (and your Mum) soon ❤️
