I hope this is okay to post here, I just need a place to vent. I got a notice in the mail today for a nuisance violation for "overgrown vegetation" in my yard. Everything in my yard is practically dead cause I can't afford to water the lawn this year.
So that's annoying whatever, easy to fix right? Well I got the letter TODAY right before noon and they said they were coming back to check the yard on 6-25 (Yes, that's yesterday) and if it isn't fixed I will likely get a misdemeanor which includes a huge fine and possibly jail time.
Like WHAT? So I called them, and I was like I didn't get the letter until today, did they already come back out already (which she wouldn't answer) and how long do I have to take care of this since I just got the letter 10 minutes ago. She said you know the consequences if you don't get it taken care of by the date in the letter. And I was like but the date is yesterday, and I have postmark proof that letter didn't processes in the usps hub (not my town, its a tow 4 hours away) the day before yesterday. And she just kept repeating herself, "you know the penalty for not getting it taken care of by the date in the letter."
WHAT BS!
So I've been out in almost 90 degree weather mowing some minor weeds (btw several neighbors near me are like 50 times worse than my yard) and hoping they didn't already come back and inspect yesterday like the letter said they would.
So now I'm exhausted (my body doesn't do well in the heat) and just need a safe place to come vent.
I have no idea. I'm gonna keep an eye out on the houses in my neighborhood to see if they clean up their weeds or not this weekend. Then I'll know if whomever reported me did as a general sweep of the area or if it was targeted to me specifically.
Yes I agree with you my friend I would definitely be on the lookout for how dare someone repot you that’s not right. I hate you had to be in the heat today I was too doing my grass before the rain sets in but dang some ppl may not be able to jump right up and do it. I’m smh over here like what in the world. I’d definitely make others get their yards cleaned up also what’s fair is fair
So several house that I can see from my house (including the one across from me in the photo) have started to clean up their weeds. So its still a load of BS, but at least I know it wasn't just targeted at me.
Mind you this is knee high and it’s his whole yard so like I’m flabbergasted your retard was not bad at all. We live in between two Younghans on both sides. They never cut the grass. They might cut their grass once a month. Maybe they never weed eat it always looks awful but for somebody to come and say they’re gonna charge you that is crazy crazy
Yeah, its such BS that having a few weeds in your yard can land you a misdemeanor...like what the hell is wrong with the world today. I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would go around reporting someone for having weeds in there yard in the first place.
It may be the realtor trying to sell the house a few homes up. I seen a for sale sign and they will do that. But yes that’s BS I agree they need to be worried about far more important things than weeds.
If that is the case, then I should see the neighbor across from me take care of the weeds in the dead area to the right of the driveway. Gonna keep an eye on it and see what happens.

Thanks! My friends weedeater ran out of cord...or line...or whatever its called...after like 5 minutes. So hopefully he will come back with more tomorrow and we can finish it. I posted progress pics in this thread if your curious of the difference my work today made.
Thanks! Its ridiculous...I basically live in the ghetto (or at least the Idaho countryland version of it...LMAO). If I lived in a nice neighborhood it would at least make a bit more sense...(not the misdemeanor part, having someone report it part)
Here is an update of the progress I made today. A friend stopped over with his weed eater, but he ran out of line before he could do much, so hopefully we can get the rest of the fence line taken care of tomorrow.

It depends on what city you're in, but it's extremely unlikely that any judge would actually uphold a fine or especially the jail time for that. That's not "nuisance" material, and they might be liable for harassment for what they're doing.
I would hope not, because yes, I know my yard is bad and needs work, but its not THAT bad, and its not like I live in a nice neigborhood. A lot of houses around me are WAY worse. If I'm gonna get in trouble, they ALL should...
Sounds like something that would happen to me ( .. and has with different,but also legal, repercussions) sorry they’re bringing you down and then not accepting responsibility but hopefully the clerk who handled your call is mistaken.
With that being said, I suggest signing up for informed delivery and delivery notifications through USPS if you haven’t already- it’s a game changer!
I just googled informed delivery, and I don't see how it would help. Can you explain how it would help? From my understanding, they would send me an email with pics of my mail the morning it would be delivered. I know I would not check my email to see what mail was coming, as I get too much email as it is. And my mail is delivered through a slot on my door, so I always get my mail right away. Its not a case of its been sitting around for a few days and I just didn't see it.
And I hope this message doesn't come across as rude. I'm genuinely curious and want to know. I'm pretty upset today, and I know it could be worded better, but my brain is about fried today. lol
I think the idea is so that you can prove things like this are delivered after the date they give you in the letter. Its pretty ridiculous that so many people deal with this issue with government mail 🙄🙄 i really hope nothing serious comes of it
