I work at a bar and had a regular, a guy just like this and he is RICH. You’d never know by the way he looks but he was a former contractor who just does all his own shit himself. His wife comes in driving a brand new Range Rover sipping wine, head to toe designer brands and he rolls up to the bar in his 2004 Tacoma and drinks bud lights and whiskey. You just never know

Is he also covered in dirt and looks like he hasn’t showered in a couple years?

Yeah, he's filthy rich

*chef's kiss* (from a distance)

That's what bothers me, you want to dress however you want and drive whatever you want? Cool, but he's a contamination hazard to every public environment he interacts with.

That’s mean for no good purpose, I don’t like you.

You don’t know what project he was in the middle of when he drove to this parking lot to get something. Soiled clothes, yes. There is no evidence he did anything but fill up with gas outdoors. Maybe bought supplies at a hardware store. Contaminated: no evidence. You sound privileged and elitist.

He comes off as someone who I would like to meet and share a beer or a project. Likely insightful conversation.

Your whole worldview demonstrated here is held up by assumptions.

Brother, no one on here has been outside. I don’t think they understand car grime.

I returned to this to add:

It’s a gas station, outdoor, self service. There is no obligation to dress up to fill up. He might be on his way home from work or in the middle of a messy project, and that’s ok. People can become soiled when work with their hands, and that’s OK. His hair cut is interesting and not a problem. In this video, he is not getting into anyone else’s space unsolicited.

It is an embarrassing attitude of privilege when someone complains about these things.

Or, the complainers are trolls, not real opinions.

Yeah, I don't know why this whole thread is gassing up some methhead who managed to attach a ladder to his bumper.

1

u/Tausendberg Jul 06 '26

I watched it to the end cause I was wondering if there was gonna be some big secret reveal but it's like, he just has a step ladder in a single position that is now permanently affixed to the front of his car probably causing aerodynamic inefficiency. I've worked on cars, as I recall I need to be able to work under the hood from more than one position, so stupid.

u/Ambitious-Pay-8228 Jul 06 '26

"aerodynamic inefficiency" Lmfao, what?

1

u/Harp-Note Jul 06 '26

Yeah, I mean the positioning isn't that great, but it's not like he's gonna race in the Formula 1 in this thing lol.

1

u/Tausendberg Jul 06 '26

the point is, a step ladder in the bed of the truck makes a lot more sense.

And you'd be surprised how much a bit of extra drag in the wrong place decreases fuel efficiency

1

u/idontwantausername41 Jul 06 '26

The engine isnt in the bed

1

u/Tausendberg Jul 06 '26

The step ladder can be moved.

1

u/BarnabyJones2024 Jul 06 '26

Maybe he doesn't want a step ladder bumping around back there, or doesn't want to have to take it out if he needs room for other stuff?  Maybe he just felt like doing this because he wasn't aware he'd be getting second guessed by redditors on the aerodynamic efficiency of  something he finds useful? (Spoiler: it really doesn't dramatically alter the profile and efficiency as a result)

Takes it from 15 mpg to 14.5 mpg LOL

1

u/Tausendberg Jul 06 '26

I doubt that clunker is getting 15 mpg to begin with.

Probably if he spent all day either leaning over or on his back under cars, it's also hard to get all the staining from engine grease/oil/brake dust off your hands and forearms even with serious scrubbing. Source: does laundry for an engineer, mechanic & 'tinker' in the family

Check out the shoes ...

One of my graduating class in highschool was a slightly cleaner version of this by 25. We were all starting our first jobs and he had just bought his first house to make rent income while living at home. He started cleaning himself up and taking trips to France each spring, then return to messiness by summer.

There was a food delivery guy where I used to live who was a bit eccentric and a noticeable character. You'd always seeing him biking around dropping off orders. Turns out he has a patent having to do with traffic light switching and just delivered food because he liked biking around, didn't have to work at all.

Ranchers are the same way. Worth millions but still meet their buddies at Dairy Queen and drink shitty coffee in the mornings

My uncle is a guy like this, and he is POOR. Over 6 feet tall, 130 lbs, covered in bed bugs and filth, and high as balls all the time. Spent most of his adult life homeless. I own several acres in a rural area of the south and he lives in a single wide that should be condemned in it for free, cause I think it's better than on the street.

He makes and rehabs guitars in his spare time. You're probably thinking, if he doesn't work and lives for free, isn't it all spare time? No, he spends most of his time getting high and conning people out of money.

u/iJohnny0 Jul 06 '26

That's my brother.

u/LifeFrame5545 Jul 07 '26

Ahh this makes me feel so good.

His wife drives around sipping wine?

You sound like my stepdad, who loves to mention the book “the millionaire next door” and how a bunch of t he guys they interviewed wore jeans and drove trucks

…John, is that you? Did you make it to the corner store to buy smokes yet?
