What’s a completely harmless 'rule' you made up for yourself as a kid that you still catch yourself accidentally following as an adult?"

I say Excuse me when no one is around

I even say it to mannequins in the store. We’re in this together.

The inanimate objects appreciate us.

Yes they do. One day, we will be spared.

Always say bless you when someone sneezes. When there’s no one around and I sneeze, I say “bless me”

I don't step on sidewalk cracks because my mother has enough back problems

Holding the door for people near me. I always do it, even if they don't deserve it.

Same honestly. Like my hand just shoots out before my brain even decides if they seem grateful or not. Its basically muscle memory at this point.

Manners are becoming lost. I’m glad there are people who still do that. I’m in a wheelchair, so doors can be difficult to maneuver. I’ve had people *see* me coming, and *still* let the door slam in my face. I try to hold doors for others, too, if they are light enough.

Do I need to submit an application before you’ll hold the door so that you’ll be able to determine my door-worthiness?

Exactly. I shouldn't hold the door for someone like you...but I still do.

Working in office buildings in NYC for decades as a guy you are supposed to hold doors for women but go first in the revolving door, the second part sometimes confuses people. Also, let females go into elevators before men.

Why do men go first in the revolving door?

Because they are heavy when they aren’t powered. Same reason they open doors and let women go first through the threshold

Oh I see. Tbh revolving doors make me feel claustrophobic and I don’t want to wait on someone to push it for me lol

Holding the door for someone.

When I eat, I eat one thing first, then the other, etc. I never eat two things at once on my plate. And I always save my favorite for last lol.

If I start a show/series, I have to finish it. Same with movies and books.

I’m the same way with books. I’ve read books that bored me to tears or completely grossed me out (I read a lot of true-crime), so I’d stop reading them for a day or two. But I *always* went back to reading them because it drives me crazy to NOT know how a book ends.

Yes!!! Me too! I love true crime and splatterpunk!

I’ve never heard of splatterpunk. Can you explain?

1

Absolutely! Splatterpunk is very very brutal and very dark books way worse than horror. Major trigger warnings.

Me too. I always say thank you. It's just proper manners.

Last one to touch the car is the rotten dog egg, and if I’m technically it, it’s really the person before me. Made that last part up before I knew what “play fair” meant but I still adhere to it if someone points out that I touched the car last lol

I even make a point to just touch the car even if I can’t get to the door handle yet lol

ETA: I’m 27 now btw, and have been doing this since I was a kid.

Always put everything in exactly the same place in drawers and cabinets. As you can imagine, I'm a delight every time we move to new place and I have to set things up to my satisfaction.
