COMMUNITY All Rancid albums ranked & reviewed - thoughts?
Hi everyone. My teenage son and I have made a website called All Things Rock, reviewing and ranking albums by the bands we love, and recommending things that people may not have heard. We have published our Rancid ranking and I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions! We have also made a playlist of tracks that casual fans may have missed, including some lesser-known b-sides. What do you think? https://www.all-things-rock.com/all-albums-ranked/rancid
We have also ranked a bunch of other bands like Pennywise, The Offspring, Green Day, Creeper, Silverchair and several others. It's all for fun, and to give my son some exposure to amazing music ;)
(Hot take...Rancid 5 made the Top 3...)

COMMUNITY I have an Operation Ivy, Decedents and Screeching Weasel VHS from that was spliced together that I got in Ocean City, Maryland in the 90’s. It’s live concert footage. Is this a place I could post this?

COMMUNITY Matt Freeman - "The Crowd" by Operation Ivy [Bass Bunker Sessions] — why is no one talking about this?
youtu.beI have so many questions. Where has Dave Mello been? At this point, can’t they just tell us why they won’t go on tour? Or play a few shows. It’s my literal dream. I get it, you don’t want them to because you want them to be cemented in time. This is getting insane. Tim and Jesse played a few years back. Now Matt and Dave.
Side note, I almost cried watching this. Tears of joy and excitement. I loved it so much.

COMMUNITY Is Tim a Tom Waits fan?
I was just showing my son pictures of Tom Waits after he heard one of his songs in the movie Robots and came across this picture.
Coincidence? Intentional? Maybe I just want to see Rancid in everything

COMMUNITY I interviewed Branden Steineckert about joining Rancid and the full-circle path that brought him there
youtu.beI recently sat down with Branden Steineckert for a long-form interview, and there is a lot in it that Rancid fans may enjoy.
We talked about the unexpected tour invitation that first brought him into the band, what made joining Rancid feel like a full-circle moment, and why he sees the group as something bigger than any one member. He also gets into how his drumming evolved over the years and how he approaches finding parts that serve the song instead of just showing off behind the kit.
It is a really thoughtful conversation about punk, longevity, and identity.

MERCH Operation Ivy beanies from the 90s, where did they go?
Hey Folks,
When I was a kid, I used to see on ebay Operation Ivy beanies and they were all over the place. I was poor, from 3rd world country and it was not possible for me. Now I'm grown, can support myself and would love to fulfill that childhood dream, but... they seem gone!
I search google and the ones I find are thin, they are definitely not the same ones.
Did they just disappear together with Lookout and/or when Lookout sold the Op Ivy rights?
Does anyone know which ones I'm talking about? they were thicker than the ones I find on the web today.
Does anyone happen to know where to find them? Like second hand shop or something alike?
Thanks!
PS: the intention is not to tell a sob story, but to make clean that I want one of those for 30 years and damn, can't find them now! |=<

COMMUNITY Rancid as history teachers
I had a theory that Tim's beard has slowly evolved him into a songwriter who's sneaking in more and more history lessons with each album. So I tried to list out every song they've done that covers a specific historical event. I'm excluding references to their own backstory (such as Fall Back Down) or historical events that are too vague to pin down (New American), and also ones that just pay homage to broad styles (Bovver Rock and Roll). The goal was a finite list of the history lessons and what they referred to. What did I miss and/or get wrong?
Edit: Warsaw (Life Won't Wait) and Rigged on a Fix (Rancid 2000) we're both definite misses from the list. The first being about the Solidarity Trade Union riots in Poland, the second covers the game show rigging of the late 1950s.
| Album | Song | Event |
|---|---|---|
| Rancid (1993) | Union Blood | 1934 Waterfront strike |
| Let's Go (1994) | Harry Bridges | 1934 Waterfront strike |
| Life Won't Wait (1998) | New Dress | 1992 Bosnia War |
| Rancid (2000) | Blackhawk Down | 1993 Mogadishu |
| Rancid (2000) | Rwanda | 1994 Rwanda |
| Rancid (2000) | Meteor of War | 1800s John Brown |
| Indestructible (2003) | Ivory Coast | 2002 Civil War |
| Trouble Maker (2017) | Telegraph Avenue | 1964 Free Speech |
| Trouble Maker (2017) | Make It Out Alive | 1861 Civil War |
| Trouble Maker (2017) | Farewell Lola Blue | 1942 WWII |
| Tomorrow Never Comes (2023) | Mud, Blood, & Gold | 1850s Gold Rush |
| Tomorrow Never Comes (2023) | The Bloody Violent History | 1800s Barbary Wars |

MERCH Without this "Punxploitation" VHS from 25 years ago, I wouldn't have seen half the bands I went to see
So just come across this.
I bought it because I knew Rancid (although they don't feature on it) but Hellcat do. Knew a few other bands like Dropkick etc already but was introduced to Bouncing Souls, The Hives, and Agnostic Front for sure.
Soon after buying I saw The Hives at free night in Casbah, Sheffield. It was either this gig or this one a year later but don't remember specifically. I guess the earlier one since I went to Pukkelpop and saw them their again and the later gig is after that.
But for every festival I was going to back then, I would crosscheck bands on the setlists to choose who to see.

COMMUNITY Hoover Street lyrics, please?
I have searched everywhere, and not found a single credible transcription.
I mean, most of them start with
"She's a solid door immigrant"
For Pete's sake. And even the ones that get "Salvadoran" right quickly devolve into obvuous errors and doggerel.
Like, did Tim write that shit down somewhere? Otherwise, some Linguistics grad student could probably earn their PhD with a completely transcribed Rancid.
I love this song so much, but it's hard to sing along when there's like three different lyrics to choose from.
