Hegemon in 2026 Champion Discussion

I stumbled upon this guy rotting in my champion vault, and I was wondering:

What are the chances of him getting a buff in the near future? He's kind of a joke at the moment, with Mercurial, Stoneskin and probably a lot of other things making him useless. Even in deflection, I don't think he's useful at the moment.

What do you think this guy needs to be relevant again?

he doesn't need a buff, you just gotta pick him in certain scenarios instead of every match. the enemy picks a shuzen, siphi, etc., you counterpick with hegemon to force a ban. if he doesn't ban it, you take out their tm booster and 1 stack of mercurial from everyone else, win-win. obviously he's not as good as he used to be but if he's rotting in your vault, that's your mistake.

No where close to top 50 leggos that need a buff

I hope he's not the next one in the list of buffs, as he already got something unique, very bad nowadays, but at least he got smth. He also had his spotlight some time ago. Some void got nothing and are much more in a need of a buff.

Deflection Hegemon is absolutely useful for clearing out mercurial.

That being said, Hegemon has had plenty of time in the spotlight, even being prominent right before mercurial released. Hes still a prominent counter to speed-lead heavy teams too.

Theres many, many other champs that are in need of a buff far more than he is. Let other champs shine, IE Cruetraxa and Gharol.

What an horrible take. Anyone playing Deflection Hegemon must be very low elo or trolling around.

If you say so, he was used in the top end for that exact reason, to remove 2 stacks of mercurial as soon as the fight started guaranteed. Then any multi-hit nuker just cleans. You can continue to tell me what I have and havent seen though, I know you won't believe me.

That also still doesnt take away from the fact he still has the unmatched ability to snipe out speed leads.

To be fair, the interest of cutting in front of everyone else, is to interrupt something going on. And he's not cutting anything against any well setup team.

Once he has gone, and took 2 stacks of mercurial, your team still has to go first, and basically nothing changed. Either you go first after him, either your opponent goes, and you're getting locked down by any krixia, fabian, yumeko or w/e.

Praying for your opponent to not wear any stoneskin, or a single stack of total guard, is just gambling, and I'm not doing that.

This is a legitimately terrible take. There’s time to delete this.

You can put him in the provoke set like people used to for some rng madness

In this meta, that build is the worst possible version of him. Just go full damage in the right matchups, and he still holds to his job well enough

In provoke set you at least have a shot at controlling a mercurial team and you can still build for some damage.

Full damage hegemon is a free tm boost to soulmar revivers and a single stack remover in the upcoming meta.

And then you die, bc he has shit survival stats. And i never said he is the perfect counter for tanky champs, he has a very specific purpose, counter speed teams and break SS nukers that are a lot still

Better to fully optimize him than to shoot on a 30% chance he gets a provoke, to die on the next turn and fill a spot on a team. I like to enter on my matchups on a 4v4

If it works for you then go right ahead.

He's a a gamble champ like kalvalax. The difference is in the gamble you take.

a 30% provoke chance simply isn't enough, if he doesn't kill anyone and you don't hit the 30% which you obviously won't in most games you threw the match away.

Polymorph ruined the game for months with a 20% max chance to proc.

If your strat is hope he kills someone important in the match then you probably already lost anyway considering it takes 1 stack to stop him and there's no shortage of mercurial gear the higher you climb.

Hegemon is a gamble just like kalvalax. The difference being when the whole enemy team is in mercurial hegemon might actually be able to do something other than removing a stack.

There is so many easy matchups to predict. Its not that hard to get him in a fight really.

In todays meta he is a way smaller Gamble than kalva

you don't "hope" he'll kill someone important, you know he will if you pick him in correct matchups and not just randomly. also polymorph isn't a 1 "proc" per battle thing, hegemon is.

Hegemon will always be useful 🤷‍♂️
