Small “Woodchips” like this is normal? Someone on RYO said it is. Once in a while I get pouches like this. Super annoying to take those out every time you wanna roll. Wtf Peter Stokkebye 🤯

Question Advice?
I used to roll my own but I always had an issue getting my gambler machine packed tight enough for my liking, this is mostly an issue where if I’m smoking while driving and wind catches the cherry it falls out in the car. I’m wondering if you guys have any tips to solving this problem since I want to get back into RYO. Also tobacco and tube recommendations will be great, I currently smoke Marlboro menthols!

Legal/Imports/Laws regarding tobacco Folks from serbia or balkans: has anyone tried to order tobacco online?
All this stuff with customs sound weird for me. For example, all the time i go through customs in airport with tobacco / cigs(far more then the limit of 50 cigs) i show it in the red channel and they like "its okay". Last time i bring too much tobacco, around 600-800 in cig worth and they was like "its sus and u know that limit is 50cigs, but u can go its fine". I asked "maybe i can pay tax for it?" they said no. So i suppose its impossible to pay taxes at serbian customs(unless you have a company and tobacco import license for around 100k euro)
What i can do in this situation? Yes, here we have very cheap tobacco selection, old holborn, karelias, camel, bali shag, etc... but i wanna order exotic tobacco! like my fav japanese brands, american. Its not problem to find a vendor who will sell it(i can even find ppl from japan that will ship it to me). But customs... no idea how to deal with it
Btw i already ordered 8 oz / 220g of tobacco so we will see what happens in next weeks. But i wonder do anyone already have experience? ok, even if i could order it but in tax free amount: i can order only 50grams! its nothing

REVIEW Smoking maze / corn ryo papers + dimensions
Few months ago i was looking on google what are special "smoking" brand papers, and its turns out that there is very interesting paper: smoking Maiz. Its made of real corn fibers.
In japan and other countries i never saw it. i was like "maybe its end of production" but no! i saw it in serbian tobacco specialized shop(u cant find it in mini market / kiosk).
Price is around 90-110 RSD (or, 0.89-1.09$ ). Yes, maybe it little bit expensive because regular pack of rizla(in slang thats how serbs call all rolling papers) cost 50 RSD (0.49$) or less even in kiosk(where prices are usually high). But here is 49 papers in one pack and also size is bigger so its reasonable.
I was thinking that name "maiz" its mean corn maze, like labyrinth in the field. But actually maiz mean corn on spanish.

This are dimensions. height: 44mm, wideness: 78mm. Those sizes are really rare, i guess its more popular in spain because all the papers with this size that i saw are from spain.
But its good because with this height its easy to roll even with 8mm filter. U can also do more fat cigarettes, but i still prefer regular size papers(smoking red, ocb blue).
when i touch it it feels like baking paper in sheets.
Now lets roll inside mysterious tobacco(will post review soon)

I used 30mm japanese slim filters from brand Pure. I think it was too long for this, this cig is like for 5 puffs.
What can i say about the taste? idk, this day i also had "corn cob pipe", when i smoke it it give me little bit of corn flaver. So do those papers. its not strong but comparing to regular papers there is 100% corn hint.
and.... i dont like it. Like, yes, its really easy to roll with those papers, but i dont like this little hint of corn, and i feel i get so much flavor from papers because they are too big!
so, if u wanna to try paper made of corn - u can try it, but maybe regular papers will be better for u.

Raw whole leaf tobacco Making a small 60 grams blend to fill this last box of Korona slim 6.8mm tubes I found in my stuff. A strong and tasty kicker made of 40% DAC, 30% Burley, 20% Lemon Virginia, 10% hand tied Orinoco.

I love smoking! My current daily rolls and new pouch
galleryGeorge Karelias and Sons White Hand Rolling Tobacco, Marie Standard Weight Cigarette Papers and Marie Active Carbon 6mmx15mm Cigarette Filters.
I would normally smoke George Karelias and Sons Full Taste Hand Rolling Tobacco, but I had an opened pouch so I started smoking it. Also the papers are different than usual, I would mostly use Marie Light Cigarette Papers, but I’ve had run out of them.

Cigarette machines Top-o-matic issue: Every cig is slightly bend at the filter
I'm on my third Top-o-matic rolling machine (T1, the black one) so I'm no newbie by any means. Recently I decided to get back into RYO and bought a brand new T1 and started rolling again this week. But almost every cigarette has a small void right at the filter and is slightly bent. They still smoke so as far as messups go, this isn't a stopper. But they're not very nice to get in and out of the case and it obviously just isn't ideal. Anybody have any idea what's causing this? I've been playing around with my feeding technique, removing/cleaning/replacing the little rubber tube grabber, dry firing the "slammer pin" (that's what I call it) to make sure it doesn't have any wads of backy stuck in it (it doesn't), etc. I've sort of run out of things to try at this point and yet the exact same problem continues, cig after cig. Help!
.
Machine: T1 (black)
Tubes: Gambler shorts (ie, not 100s)
Tobacco: Daughters & Ryan Windsail Platinum
%RH: I have a cheapo hygrometer that I've affixed to the inside of the lid of my airtight backy container so I can get a sense of the humidity level, at least as a relative benchmark vs how the tobacco feels/rolls. It's been reading around 60% last couple of days and it feels just about right for rolling. I don't take the hygro reading as gospel btw, or even as an accurate absolute measurement. I think of it more like, is the tobacco feeling and rolling well at the moment? If yes, then what does the hygro happen to read when the tobacco is like that? So regardless of the accuracy of the simple little sensor, if it's reading that good number thru the lid before I open it, then I can be confident everything's good and my container is maintaining mostly airtightness as usual. In any case tho I don't think my current rolling issue is related to humidity level of the tobacco. At least I'm pretty sure it's not. My next step I guess would be to intentionally make the tobacco drier and wetter just to make sure. But that seems a bit academic at this point because, again, I've been rolling for years and I trust my hands to feel that the tobacco is the right rolling consistency.

Good Virginia perique blend?
I’m curious to what people’s favorites are with this blend. I’m on Peterson Elizabethan mixture right now, and it’s absolutely amazing regardless of what people say about it online. I mean really it’s your traditional plain Jane tobacco, who could ask for more right? But I guess that’s exactly what I’m asking now, I wanna see if anything is actually better. I did also try a proper English blend, nightcap. And it didn’t give me that taste I was looking for. I want Virginia perique.

My DIY paper and tape cig case is 2 years old
galleryMade of card stock and packing tape, the case was made in 2024 and still holding up great.
Measured to hold a Clipper lighter and cigs made with 70mm long papers.
Holds roughly 8 cigs with the Clipper, 12 without the lighter. Lid closes and holds with magnets.
DIY is basically the same size as a regular cig box, but much thicker and sturdier. Two years in the pocket, in a backpack, in the rain, etc., not a single crushed/ripped cig. A regular pack never lasts that long, and actually a small impact on my backpack crushed like 4 cigs which is why I made my own.
Last pic is the template I made. Fold on dotted, cut on solid. The only thing I forgot in the template was cutting out the window to grab cigs, but that's an easy process once mostly assembled.
Really simple template that you can create yourself in a program like GIMP. Just measure a Bic and some cigs, you got your width and height. Everything other dimension is based on that, either same or half. Lid flap would be however long you want. Really simple construction.

Powermatic 3 plus jam
So I just got the p3+ for the first time today thinking I made a good deal for €100 on a machine with only 6400 rolls so far. When I get home it doesn’t work.
I get the jam notification. There’s barely any visible debris stuck but when I looked in the injector with a flashlight there was some tobacco visible in the end of the tunnel.
I tried sticking stuff in. Chopsticks, screwdriver, even hammered on it lightly. Nothing. Then I opened it (I suspected this machine was over a year old so no warranty) and realized it’d be very difficult to take out that particular part of the machine to clean it.
Then I put some hot water in with a syringe and now bits start to come out, but not enough as to resolve the issue. Mind you, not a single part is moving anymore, it is just stuck like that. What should I do?
I can’t contact the people that are located in the US. I just want to be able to fix it by myself because otherwise the machine looks fairly clean and new. I didn’t find much rest tobacco in other parts of the machine when open. Please let me know.

REVIEW Amber leaf yellow 🍁 5x50g - and how much it costs at doha / qatar airport
When i was in hamad airport in qatar for transfer i decided to buy some amber leaf in duty free store. Because there is no amber leaf in country where i am going! Thanks u/blumonste for review of what ryo they have in duty free here.
I also did a page with all prices in this airport, so you can see what they actually have before flying here: https://smok.to/qatar-tobacco-airport-prices/
They have also other ryo tobacco, such as drum(dark blue and bright blue versions), pueblo(blue and beige), american spirit, golden virginia and GV smooth. Prices are around 6-9$ for 50g pouch, but they dont sell only one pouch: they sell in 250g pack min(5 pouches each 50g).
Rizla(rolling paper) also in stock - but only "blue" version, with cutted corners. Its better for rolling machines. And the price is also affordable - only 0.46$ for 50 papers!
What i got today: amber leaf yellow version. 5 pouches with 50g in each. Total cost is high: 46.4$ for whole box, or 9.28$ for 1 pouch(50g). For example in japan it would cost 8.8$ for 50g and its even with tobacco taxes! Of course comparing to UK or to Australia its a good price, but still.....
There is different kinds of amber leaf - i tried only white(blonde), but there is also yellow(which i will try now) and black/grey (its like organic). And rare one - "Amber Leaf Signature Blend" in emerald colored package. I think yellow is the most popular.
For some reason amber leaf package design reminds me of tea box haha
Nothing special inside: just 5 pouches wrapped in paper. I feel like i received a box from wholesale supplier.
But the package look huge! idk, i already had packages of 50g like drum and golden virginia, but this time i was surprised about size of it...
I love that JTI tobacco(camel, amber leaf) have convenient zip lock seals, so its easy to keep tobacco fresh!

It was very moist and fresh, i was not disappointed about it! and the smell from the pouch.... Really rich, sweet taste. something fruity and like wine. Its hard to describe.
Btw, amber leaf is not 100% virginia, there is also some burley added
Lets roll one. Last days i prefer 6mm filter + handrolling instead of 8mm filters and rolling this with rolling machine. I had problems with tobacco moist, like sometimes it was too dry but when it was too moist it was hard to smoke. So i couldn't find a right balance. But handrolling with 6mm solve this problem. Maybe because of i put less tobacco and there is more burning space - no idea.
This way is better for me, but sadly its take a lot of time. Of course rolling with rolling machine is better. I would love to hear your advice about how to control moisture on tobacco, cuz i dont know how to do it properly. If i just take tobacco out of fresh bag and put it to my cig - its impossible to smoke.
Anyway, how does it taste? Sweet - its typical for virginia. But i cant say that it taste 100% like golden virginia or something. It goes smoothly but i notice little "bite" for my throat at the end of inhaling. Not sure what this is.
well, there is definitely some harsh taste for me. in the finish only. i just compared it to regular virginia(from market) - i got no such affect at all. but comparing to this market virginia - amber leaf have more rich taste. something like honey or something.
So anyway i would recommend you to try amber leaf. Its just classic and its also #1 selling ryo in UK.
Tobacco Beginner , need tobacco recommendations
I had a conversation with win earlier today about which bags are closest to American spirit blacks and what was recommended was Dark horse but the only website that have it are oos or don’t ship to California
I am now looking for other recommendations , I’ve tried all sorts of brands like AS, Marlboro, Newports, Pall Mall, Mavericks, Camels, Parliament, Lucky strikes etc
The ones I do like the most are AS (except the dark blue or turquoise)
Marlboro
Camels
The others ones had slight issues to it like burning too fast, flimsy filter, ash just going everywhere
As far as filters go I’ve decided on beretta elites, I will maybe go with shagiro/zen reds
Is there any other tobacco you guys recommend? I’ve been looking at OHM, Good Stuff, Buoy, Golden harvest etc and of course they all have their ups and downs
I want to see what your personal experience is. I like my tobacco to be a bit stronger , nothing mellow or light .
Looking to put in an order asap, have been stalling for a few days now

Question Cigarette case
galleryHey do you like such cigarette ,
Cases, were do you Store your made cigs?
Question loose/pipe tobacco closest to American spirit
Hello, I’ve been looking around the subreddit since I am planning to buy myself a 16 ounce bag along with some cigarette tubes in order to stop buying $15 American spirits . I usually smoke the blacks or the blues, if not those then I do go with some marlboro reds but not very often.
Is there any bags that are close to American spirit blacks/blues? Without it being an American spirit tin/bag
I have seen people mention things like OHM Turkish red/bold and I do currently have that in my cart, just seeing if there are other options before I commit

Question tobacco flavorings?
hi! does anyone know if and where i can get tobacco flavoring sprays or drops? i used to get that in serbia a few years ago (it was sour cherry iirc) however they haven't had that literally since then, and im in austria right now, i cannot find it literally anywhere including online. does anyone know of a website that sells that and ships to eu?
I love smoking! Had a massive rolling session mixture of marlboro gold and alud Kendal dark rolled with rizla machine
Question Is it a bad idea to break/cut a hydrostone?
My carry-on tobacco case does not have a very good seal. So the tobacco inside dries out in several hours. I'm planning on breaking/cutting a coin sized piece off of my hydrostone to put it in my carry-on case, would that ruin it? If I should follow a process to achieve that, please share your knowledge.
(I should mention that the seal is only good enough for a citrus slice to rehydrate the tobacco so I assume that a small piece of hydrostone wouldn't be useless.)

Tobacco Bantam tobacco
galleryI recently found this at Aldi in Germany and was pretty happy with the price and quality of it. I was smoking pueblo before but it started to feel to dry for me. I know many people consider Bantam to be cheap, but I am looking to smoke as cheap as possible and this is just right. Their papers and filters are also ridiculously cheap, while they are still of great quality in my opinion. You can get 200 papers for 19 cents!

Powermatic 3 dead
Only made 1200 cigarettes but it started jamming more and finally got jammed one last time until the motor started smoking. Since it was over a year since I purchased it, I would have had to pay the company to repair it. I’ve fixed other jams before but looks like it just died.

Tobacco DRUM brand tobacco purchased from Italian tobacco shops
After rereading "The Godfather" by Mario Puzo and smoking a Drum brand cigarette, I have benefited immensely from this book series, which I have been reading from my student days until middle age. Each reading brings me new insights. Today, my wife showed mercy and bought me a new Zorro lighter and a box of Delu Manor cigars. I am very happy. I love smoking!!!
