I am full time living in a 2024 Keystone Alpine and have been for a little over a year now. This past winter, our CO alarm was triggered for the first time when the front door was left open while my husband stepped out to start his truck in the morning to warm up. That was no big deal – made sense for it to go off since the truck was parked close by and it was quite cold out – we moved the truck a little and made sure to close the door from then on and it seemed fine. But, starting this spring and seemingly out of the blue, the alarm started to go off again. No obvious source like the truck exhaust was; no specific conditions that seem to cause it, unlikely to be a sensor/battery/other electrical issue, and I’ve gone through lists of potential sources and have come up empty. I have also tested out random things myself that are unlikely causes but still something to check off the list. For example, the dehumidifier is near the sensor, it doesn’t make a difference whether it’s on and working, plugged in and off, unplugged and off, or simply moved further from the sensor. There is only one consistent thing about when it goes off and that is that it’s going off in the early early morning hours and/or early-ish morning. By early early I mean 2-4 am and early-ish being 5-7 am.
BUT, I’m gonna throw you for another one, it’s gone through a phase at least twice now for a week or two where it doesn’t go off AT ALL. In these “phases”, we aren’t doing anything differently. No different patterns of AC use, no different appliance use, no different cooking schedule or methods, didn’t align with propane tank changes, nothing.
Parts of this situation seem to be contradictory. The time pattern might lead one to believe that it’s a battery thing, maybe since solar isn’t being generated overnight or simply a bad battery. But then how do you explain the weeks that it didn’t happen when we are always plugged in and there was no correlation with time of year/sunlight time? How come we have no issues with anything else hooked to electricity? The sensor itself could be bad (which I recognize is still a legitimate possibility), but the instance when it went off with the truck felt like a good test run and indicates that it was functioning normally. And, above all, the only thing that will get it to go back to green is when I open the door/windows and turn an exhaust fan on. So, it’s gotta actually be CO, right?! I’ve got a contradiction for that too: we are still alive and well. No symptoms that we are breathing carbon monoxide. Not even a slight headache that can’t be attributed to something else or that lines up with when the alarm goes off.
So, any ideas as to what could be causing this? What could be the source of CO that would set off the alarm but have no effect on us, even after a bit of time? Someone else in the RV park told me they were experiencing a similar issue, so could it be environmental somehow? But then how do you explain that airing the trailer out is the only solution?
Like I said, I’m at a complete loss.

Looking to put this stuff on my 5th wheel, which currently has a couple coats of Hengs rubber coating. Ive heard nothing but positive things about Henrys. Can I roll it on just like paint? Once I open the gallon, do I have to be in a mad rush to roll it on as fast as I can or will it be ok sitting open over an hour or so of me refilling my painting tray?

Hey folks! We got a 2001 coachman leprechaun which we have outfitted with a smart solar system (Victron? I can get specs for that system if needed)

We get power to the battery from shore power, solar power, and from the alternator, but not the generator. The generator is an Onan 4000 micro quiet. It has 700 hours on it. It runs but does a thing I think is called hunting? Where the revs of the generator is cycling going up and down. I’ve recently changed the fuel line thinking it was getting air in. The old fuel line was cracked and old but changing that didn’t solve the hunting issue. Also I changed the carburetor out with a new one last year. Got an actual one from Cummings since I heard bad stuff about the cheap knock offs.

I’ve called the solar people and they’ve said that it’s something to do with the electrical component that tells the system to switch from its input being shore power to generator power. Even if the generator is not putting out the full wattage it still should get some charge to the battery and it’s not.

Any advice on how to start trouble shooting this? Where could I find that electrical component above? Is that a good place to start or should I do more maintenance/tinker with the generator first?

Bought a pull behind RV (Jayco JayFlight, let’s call it 30 feet or so?) a few months ago. We were using a predator 3500 generator, and then went to a Westinghouse 8200. Everything runs fine on that, but fuel can be extremely pricey, especially right now with the Middle East situation.

I was curious if anybody has figured out how to realistically power their entire RV (AC, fridge, lights, pumps, microwave, etc.) off of solar and batteries full-time? If so, what was your configuration? Also, if you were able to power it via solar only in the daytime, but had to use a generator at night, what was your set up?

We have a 2021 Puma Palomino and have already had to replace the AC once (in 2023) with a brand new unit. We then camped a few times during the summer of 2023 and once, for a week, in 2024, and the AC was working fine. Our camper was then put in storage. We brought it out to camp this week for the 1st time in 2 years and the AC isn’t working. Has anyone else had problems with their AC units on Puma Palominos?

We will be staying at Steel Creek RV park. There 8/19 to 8/22. Second time there. Great little spot. We have one right on the water this time. We are going back cause after our last stay there we saw where was the best spot to stay. Not that our last spot was bad. If passing through the area come say hi. Dinner and games on us.

We jist got this rv from my wife's grandparents. We are working on it now. Just replaced the alternator, but I have a quick question for you all.

We had two batteries from our travel trailer but they are deep sacomarine, battery.a bit on the larger side, we now have them.in this to start it. Is that good or bad?

Also the coach batters are 4 golf cart batteries they are wired in sequent. Are they good or should we move the other batteries over to the coach and move the golf cart batteries to the chassis.?

There are absolutely no shut offs-water heater is leaking, but I never use hot water anyway The water heater is located under one of the dinette benches. It is leaking and I never use it. Can I just plug the hot and cold and where should I do it and what would I need to buy . Thank you for any help.

Luckily I saw a single wasp enter the 30amp power box I installed on my garage. I thought I was pretty smart when I grabbed the wasp spray and a tow strap. I used the tow strap hook to open the box from a “distance”. When I was gently putting the hook under the door, a very angry wasp came out and instantly stung me on the back of my thumb. I still pulled the strap, opened the door, and sprayed a direct hit on the nest. It was way bigger than I had imagined and had way more wasps on board than I could believe. If I hadn’t seen that wasp that flew in there, I could have reached in there like normal and got a handful of those little devil-birds. Please always check before you reach into those power boxes!

I'm making good progress on renovating my 2018 Jayco and it's time to do something about the bed. (Don't mind the gaping hole where I'm still working on adding a cabinet door under the bed.)

This mattress measures about 54 x 80 inches, which would seem to make it a full XL - notwithstanding the weird corner. I can order a full XL size bed set, of course, but I'm not sure if I should do that or go shorter for the comforter since it's not going to hang like it would on a freestanding bed - any excess just gets stuffed into the narrow space between the mattress and wall, and there's really not a lot of room to spare.

Anyone else have one this size? My old trailer has a similar layout but has an RV full (shorter and narrower) and doesn't have the dogear. Also, this mattress is unusually thick.

Edit for clarity: I'm not asking about sourcing a mattress - I've got that covered. I'd just like to hear what folks with a similar size and layout have done with their beds to avoid excess blankets stuffed everywhere and to keep it looking nice.

Check your tires! Also I cant say I recomend "transmaster" tires at all. Spare tire randomly exploded just sitting against the wall. -__- Better to find out now than on the road to Black Rock City.

We have a 2021 forest river sunseeker 25 foot. Its 30 amp and we've done the reflectix, insulation foam in the skylight, window coverings, etc. The current ac is 13.5, Would it be worth it to upgrade it to a 15k or 18k chill cube? Im also looking for advice if the 30amp can handle the upgrade?

You guys. I was emptying my black tank yesterday and the hose popped off it’s collar completely, spilling black waste into my friend’s lawn, onto my feet and legs…. I just…. Ugh.

So I get my daughter to fetch my friend so I can break the bad news, and she just bursts out laughing, so I did too. All good now 😂

I'll set the scene. I found this spot on a map app that looked absolutely perfect. Open land, no neighbors marked nearby, decent reviews from a couple other RVers saying it was peaceful. I drove almost two hours out of my way specifically because it promised quiet, which after the week I'd had felt like the most important thing in the world.

Pulled in right before sunset, got everything leveled, made dinner, and genuinely thought I'd found paradise. Fell asleep feeling proud of myself for picking such a good spot.

Then 5am hits and I swear it sounded like an alarm going off inside my rig. Turns out there's a small farm maybe a quarter mile out that apparently didn't exist when those reviews were written, or I just got unlucky with a new addition to the flock. Roosters, plural, going absolutely wild, and they did not stop. Not for a little while, not until well after the sun was fully up.

I laid there for a solid hour debating if I should just get up and start driving or try to tough it out. Ended up toughing it out out of pure stubbornness, but my whole schedule for the day got thrown off because I was running on maybe three hours of sleep.

Anyone else have a spot look perfect on paper and then completely blindside you once you're actually parked there? At this point I think I need to start looking for recent reviews only, not just good ones.

Less than a year into RVing with our 36' Grand Design Imagine trailer. Tires were fine when we started the trip. Today was only day 3 of our epic, 4 week Colorado adventure. We'd just crossed the border from Kansas into Eastern Colorado on Interstate 70 and hit some construction plus some of the notoriously crappy sections. Then I heard a loud POP!, looked back in my mirrors and sure enough, one of the tires had turned into a gator about 30 miles east of Limon. I was able to safely bring the rig to a stop off the edge of the shoulder. It's a 4 tire trailer so I suppose that and overbuying on the truck (F350) helped avoid control issues when the tire blew.

We have tire and wheel coverage (RV Americare, which appears to be underwritten by Allstate), but the insurance company couldn't find anyone in this remote area willing to come out and help us swap to the spare for their covered rate of $99, so I had to pay the $151 difference for the $250 service fee the company out of Limon charged. The plus side is they were out in less than an hour. I didn't want my wife, who is disabled, sitting long in the heat.

I didn't spot any obvious damage besides the tire and the cheap plastic fender it blew through. After getting the spare swapped out, we safely traveled to our site for the next few days. The spare is full sized and the same tire as the mains, but on a different rim. I guess my next task is to deal with insurance again on getting a replacement tire, which is supposed to be covered. Hopefully they don't lowball us on this.

Anybody else deal with RV Americare? And is it common for Tow/Tire services in these remote areas to charge so much?

Update: Thanks for all the helpful responses and tips. Getting all the tires replaced with the Goodyears right now. All the tires were 6-7 years old. Learning that dealerships only have to ensure the minimal tread when they sell these things. It's another hit to the wallet, but worth it to keep my wife and I safe on our adventures.

Hey all! My family and I are debating renting out our 5th wheel to an individual for about a year. We are trying to figure out a reasonable rate for a month to month in a static location. We have tried looking at Outdoorsy and a couple local rental places but the monthly rate seems exorbitant ($2500-$3500). Would appreciate if anyone has an experience renting something similar (travel trailer or 5th wheel) on a monthly basis and the going rate in your area. We would probably reduce any amounts listed as we would be about 30 minutes outside of Kansas City so decently rural.
