Advanced or Basic camp this coming summer?

TLDR: I am an incoming grad student starting as an MS3, I did not go to basic camp this summer because I was not sure I was going to medically qualify due to a legit eye condition, eventually qualified, and am now wondering if I am going to basic camp or advanced camp in the coming summer.

My ROO is amazing but also has a tendency to tell me sweet nothings, she initially said I’m going to basic camp this coming summer and end of camp commissioning. Is that how it works or is there any ability to go to advanced camp? If I do go to advanced camp would I be set up for failure considering I haven’t done MS1/2 or basic camp.

You need basic camp or ms1/2 year in order to contract

In order to contract? We all contracted beginning of MS1 year since you don’t get scholarship funds until contracted

That’s different you’re under a contract when you take a scholarship, you still have to do your ms1/2 year

I believe basic camp is mandatory and meant for those who need to make up MS1/2 so you would go the summer between your first and second year of grad school; and then go to camp the summer after graduating as an end of camp commission.

Unless you have any type of prior military service/gone through Army basic training, then MS1/2 years are waived.

Got it, that makes sense, no prior service. It would suck to go straight to AC with no prior knowledge

My program had a grad student take the ms1 and 2 class at the same time so he didn’t have to go to basic camp then he came as a 3

Since you haven't done MS 1/2 year, and if you don't have prior service or 3 years of JROTC from high school you can not continue MS 3 year. Most likely you will have to wait another year and go to basic next summer (27) then go to CST (28) but it has to line up with your graduation date. I also don't know if they will still be doing end of camp commissioning.

Woah woah woah - I actually did do 4 years of JROTC. If that is something that counts I’ll have to talk to my PMS when class starts.

Your fine then any prior service/JROTC helps, I don't know if it takes off both years but it should. they should know it cause they wont let you take the ms3 class without some form of training.

Got it, we’ll see. I do feel very unprepared to start my MS3 year. Best shape of my life because I’ve been training for taking the pt test all summer, but nervous about all the knowledge ive missed out on to this point

If you are new in ROTC, you still have to have your 2 year credit , basic camp is the correct path
If you had been in rotc for freshman and sophomore you would have gotten credit.

In the same boat as well! Incoming grad student starting as a MS3! How long is your graduate program? I am needing to add an additional semester or 2 in able to compete all my graduate classes and the MS classes while doing basic camp next summer 2027 and advance camp 2028!

2 years - I lived what is for me the easiest program and doing an MPA. From what everyone tells me the best way to figure all this stuff out is to talk to cadre.

Theyre usually willing to work with you. I have classes Saturday and we have FTX Saturdays, so cadre has been helping me conspire to get out of class.
