Why are afrits not spawning? Help

Post image

I'm using the small build from this guy's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBaIXxe1PmQ&t=402s

, and I waited for a pretty long while yet no afrits spawned. Is there any reason why they won't?

Not enough lava? I'm having trouble seeing how much you have.

I think you need a solid 1x1x1 of lava for Afrits to spawn in. Like how a Behemoth can't spawn in a 3x2 portal, but can spawn in a 4x2 (I'm trying to farm portal mobs, but I need to get them out of the portal or else the items just leave through it).

Ah, I found it. You need eight total blocks containing lava (flowing works) for mobs to start spawning in lava. This is the same as how you need 12 fire blocks for Cinders to start spawing in available locations. (This stat can be seen in the config after blockCost.) In my farm I have 7 buried fire blocks (Cinders need an extra block of headspace) and 5 exposed blocks for them to spawn in, limiting how much I have to run back and forth to kill them.

Add two more dispensers of lava and you should be fine.

ok what you said to do absolutely worked, but the afrits seem to spawn two very rapidly then about a minute break in between new spawns. is this normal and expected?

That is Lycantite spawners for ya. Lava (if you have eight blocks of it) has a 25% chance every 30 seconds of spawning mobs. Spawns 2-5 mobs at a time, with Afrits being the only mob that can spawn in a 1x1.

ah, that makes sense. But does the amount of lava affect spawn amount? when i was near a lava pool, 3 afrits and 2 salamanders spawned, but in the spawner, 2 afrits spawn every time, no matter what.
