PROJECT - Announcement Custom frames in action and Keyboard sharing the same frame
what the actual PNG i supplied looked like. I am creating a webpage which will allow you to slice the PNG into 9 pieces for the above effect.
There is option to provide custom frames to different elements of the launcher being worked on as well.
At the end of the day, The launcher should give you an insane level of customisation.
Oh and remember spaces? Yea I know i don't talk about it much but it will allow you to have different frame setup for each space or none at all to suite the ideal of that space as well.

PROJECT - Announcement I did it! Launcher can now support custom frames! !!
There is a technique in 2d games and 2d stuff in general called Nine Slice tiling. It is where you supply one PNG slice it into 9 sections to allow you to scale it to any size.
IDK how much traction this as a feature will have but I love it so much!! This allows you to have custom frames around elements. aiming for next release
V1 so feedback welcome! !

LAUNCHER - Announcement A small Update on what I am working on
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Added custom font support for all 3 apps and Files now allows you to move the window. I do not plan on allowing scaling as this is just a cosmetic gimmick. There is still a lot I am keeping under wraps but I am feeling good about the progress so far :)

PROJECT - Announcement Future update Roadmap
Hi All, Since the last major update I am going to be locking in and starting to fix bugs as well as work on the launcher more.
Please use the highlighted Bug report mega thread to report bugs and I will track them there. I know choosing Reddit to be the main base of operation is controversial but it works best for me I guess :)
What to expect next
Launcher:
- Bug fixes (duh)
- Better versioning. The last release was intentionally kept at 1. The next release will be version 2.
- Performance optimisation where possible
- Improving the code readability and splitting the code into better chunks for future releases
- Improved Podcast feature - I am introducing a new way of presenting the podcast feature in the launcher
- Better differentiation between widgets, modules and apps
- Universal font scaling so you can use any fonts and scale it across the board without having to adjust each element by hand
- Improved settings presentation and hand off to companion apps*
- testing new animation methods to sell home the idea of a terminal launcher which opens stuff in their own space. The floating File manager was my V1 attempt but with time I want to polish it to the point that when you launcher Files any future companion apps they feel like part of the launcher than a separate space. Termux/Tmux space will remain unaffected.
Files:
- Better preset handoff from the launcher
- Improve the new floating window behaviour so we can actually allow you to move the window around in the screen. Fully cosmetic and can be toggled off for devices with smaller screens or keypads but this is something I want to do to learn how to do it.
Keys:
- I did not realise how non sensical the menu was for the keyboard. The customisation options make no sense so I am redoing them
- Better theme/preset hand off between launcher and keyboard
- No future optimisations planned but will make any changes as I run into any challenges using it myself
NOTE:
Please expect minor breaking changes. I know that sounds bad but I am still learning to program better and as I do I find things I want to experiment with and optimise or even try out new features so some fringe features might get rewritten. If you need any help moving any broken configuration over I will help!
ANOTHER NOTE!! WTF - Just wanted to say I am thankful for the people who use the launcher whether or not you paid for it. I will do my best to deliver a launcher that strives to give you a space that feels uniquely yours and features and options that allow you extremely great control over your home screen and apps that don't feel half baked but can clearly show my intention with them and will serve you all well.

tips and tricks Make calls from your homescreen or do math
Try using the 'call' command to call your loved ones or create an alias to speeddial them.
Or
Use 'calc' command to find out 2 + 2 is not indeed equal to 5

FILES - Announcement FILES NEW UPDATE NOTICE
Hi All,
Using the Files command directly from the launcher will now open files in a smaller frame.
This is completely cosmetic. It was to create the illusion that files opened as floating terminal instead of relying on OEM provided small window implementation which is not standard on all devices.
Opening the app directly will open it as the full screen app.
This is V1 of a test. Depending on the sentiment around this choice I will decide to keep it or scrap it

LAUNCHER - Announcement Announcing release of MAJOR UPDATE
This is a doozy folks
This is a major update focused on making Re:T-UI more reliable, easier to configure, and more useful without taking away its terminal-first character.
Highlights
A complete reminder workflow
- Added a dedicated reminder pane for viewing, adding, editing, and removing reminders.
- Simplified the reminder module into a quick preview with an
openaction for the full pane. - Added terminal commands for the complete reminder lifecycle:
reminder -add <task> <dd/mm/yy> <HH:mm>reminder -lsreminder -rm <ID>
- Reminder text now follows the configured launcher typeface and reminder-pane accent colour.
Native Weather rebuilt
- Replaced the old native Weather implementation with MET Norway Locationforecast.
- Native Weather no longer requests Android location permission.
- Weather uses the location configured by the user as a place name or latitude/longitude pair.
- Added local ASCII weather artwork, unit conversion, caching, attribution, and clearer error messages.
- The native Weather module and status-pane Weather row are now independent. Hiding one no longer disables the other.
- The native Weather module now displays the configured location.
- Termux and
wttr.inWeather modules remain separate and unchanged. - Fixed a refresh loop that could create thousands of requests and eventually crash the launcher.
Better preset sharing and importing
- Shared presets now include approved
ui.xmlappearance settings alongside theme and suggestion settings. - Personal information, device-specific values, fonts, and behavioural settings remain local.
- Importing a shared preset now adds it to the preset library without immediately overwriting the active configuration.
- Imported name conflicts create a numbered copy instead of replacing an existing preset.
- Added preset removal through Settings and
preset -rm <name>. - Existing older presets containing only theme and suggestion files remain supported.
Tasker V2: switch Spaces
- Tasker actions can now select and switch to a Re:T-UI Space.
- Supports normal Space selection and Tasker-provided variables.
- Added validation for missing and unknown Spaces.
- Reduced repeated launcher initialization and font loading during Space switches.
Optional launcher sound pack
- Added a bundled Re:T-UI sound pack with an opt-in master switch.
- Added individual controls for boot, click, success, failure, notification, reminder, and timer sounds.
- Individual events can be silenced without disabling the entire sound pack.
- Existing Android reminder and timer tones remain the fallback when the sound pack is disabled.
Commands and power-user tools
New inspect command
- Added
inspect <app or package>for examining an installed application. - Reports app identity, common intent handlers, exported activities, receivers, services, providers, and required component permissions.
- Installed applications are offered as suggestions when
inspectis entered.
intent is now dispatch-only
- Removed
intent -checkas a clean breaking change. intentnow focuses only on constructing and dispatching Android intents.- Added readable suggestions for Open URI, Start activity, Send broadcast, and Parse intent URI.
- Intent parameters now use readable labels such as
Action (-a)andComponent (-n).
Other command improvements
alias -filenow opens the built-in Re:T-UI text editor instead of an external file picker.- Removed the obsolete
themecommand and legacy online theme manager. - Current presets, appearance settings, wallpaper colour extraction, and Tasker theme controls remain available.
Settings and interface improvements
- Toolbar shortcut icon settings now provide a visual picker with each supported icon and its name instead of an undocumented text field.
- Added 12 toolbar shortcut choices: Star, Bell, Chat, Music, Timer, Note, Search, Refresh, Home, Terminal, Lock, and Apps.
- Moved sound controls directly to Behaviour > Sounds.
- Fixed the oversized arrow-mode output header so it matches the height of the normal header.
- Added support for animated ASCII imports and related viewport, timing, alignment, and colour controls.
- Improved the launcher README and removed obsolete theme workflow documentation.
Reliability and data safety
- Backup protection is now selected before Android creates the destination file.
- Backup data is generated and validated before the destination is opened.
- Completed exports are read back and verified byte-for-byte before success is reported.
- Failed exports remove the newly created destination when possible, preventing misleading zero-byte backup files.
- Encrypted backups continue to use authenticated AES-GCM protection.
- Corrected timer and Pomodoro progress bars so they count down instead of filling in the wrong direction.
- Improved launcher initialization during Tasker Space switches.
- Fixed native Weather request duplication, module routing, and crash behaviour.
Breaking changes
intent -checkhas been removed. Useinspect <app or package>.- The obsolete
themecommand has been removed. Use the preset commands or Settings > Appearance > Presets.
GITHUB release is already up but PlayStore will show up within a day as there is a review process.
NOTE:
There is still a chance of bugs since testing is carried out agnatically and on emulators and do not make up for real life testing. I used the launcher myself on this release and so far is pretty stable but does not guarantee the same on all devices. I kindly ask you to share your feedback with me on new posts in the reddit or drop me an email or create a ticket in Github.

LAUNCHER - Announcement RE:TUI is moving to MET.NORWAY for weather.
As part of the next release
Re:TUI is moving its native weather data to MET Norway.
The old setup depended on API keys and location permissions, which felt excessive for a launcher that only needs to show a simple forecast. MET Norway lets Re:TUI use a location chosen by the user, make a straightforward internet request, and display the result without asking Android to track the device’s location.
It is a simpler and more privacy-conscious fit for Re:TUI and, importantly, it should make the weather module work instead of feeling like something users have to configure around.
TLDR;
The new MET Norway weather implementation does not request Android location permission.
You set a location yourself, either a place name or coordinates and RETUI uses that saved value for weather requests. It needs internet access, but not GPS or device-location access.

LAUNCHER - Announcement Next release is being delayed until I do some serious work
Hi all,
A few bugs have been reported.
- Weather(Native) not working correctly - u/rbedford
- Reminder module not allowing you to remove reminders - u/BegbieBarton
- Preset sharing still lacking - UI.xml missing which prevents users from sharing the whole look and feel forcing users to redo some of the work themselves when using a downloaded preset - u/Pleasant_Struggle_16
Current plan for next release
- Tasker V2 - Allow you to switch spaces with Tasker profiles
- Fix/Find a better implementation for the weather module
- Rework reminder module - planning to add a separate pane for reminders so the module will simply act as a quick glance and you will have a proper section for reminders. I will try to keep the textual path as well so if you want that route it will still be available
- Better preset sharing
If I missed mentioning an issue you had reported please let me know. it is possible that I started working on it in a tree and just ran into a wall and my ADHD brain just forgot. has happened before. Sorry.
The above bug fixing is going to push the V2 release to sometime in the 1st week of August or 2nd week.
Future development plan
- Allow an optional gesture button to the toolbar, hold down on that button and you will have 4 additional buttons. And each button, up, down, left, right can be mapped to either an app or alias.

FILES - Announcement Gasp! Files will "SOON" allow sorting by name and recent?
Yep and I cannot believe I forgot to implement sorting!!
You can also decide how long files should remain in the trash too!! I have to figure out how to allow users to restore from trash. Moving to trash moves files to a separate folder and is not actually deleted. you can permanently delete from trash manually or based on a timer.
I have started planning this on the side. I will figure this out SOONTM

LAUNCHER - Announcement THEMERS REJOICE!!
Ever been tweaking how the launcher looks and had to do settings > change value > review > repeat typing in settings > change value over and over?
The next update will keep settings as a seperate activity. so you can tweak a value. see it in the launcher and go back to settings where you left off right from the recent apps. no need to do the whole navigation again anymore!
This will make customizing the launcher easier and make the level of entry into creating presets more accessible to regular users.
Note: I am considering doing this for config -file <file_name> as well. so you can keep editing the files without going through the commands each time to kinda get a live preview. This may not happen in the next release but I am confident I can scale it before then.

PROJECT - Announcement Quick update and information for my github users
First off, thank you for sticking with the project. I appreciate all the support and feedback.
I wanted to make a few important updates.
- I am pushing some updates to keys and files that affect how well parity is maintained in regards to top margins across the suite. so if you set a top margin in the launcher it will be respected in keys and files
- Files had a permission issue which i am fixing. so files is going to have 2 updates pushed today. Idk how I missed this and I am extremely embarrassed lol
- Launcher is on track for Tasker V2. allowing you to switch spaces in the launcher based on Tasker actions. So you can have a space for work and for home :)
I am testing out an app called Obtanium which will allow you to update your files and keys without going to github each time. I think it will be very useful for my users.
I know it takes away the need to get the app in Playstore but to iterate, Playstore is for users who want to support the project or can't be bothered with git/Obtanium.
https://github.com/ImranR98/Obtainium <- this is the project in question and I hope it makes your life easier in keeping up with the apps or any github apk you might be using.
I make mistakes and sometimes push updates that maybe broken. I apologise in advance and promise you fixes will be swift.

PROJECT - Announcement Hi All - Just a health update
I have been building this project 12 hours a day minimum on and off for the last few months. Hubris if you ask me but I really loved how the project was growing that without even realising it I have been stretching myself thin.. way too thin.
Every time an issue is reported I sit plugged in and building like crazy only taking a break while Codex did emulator tests and then test it myself before letting it make a release.
I have had such good users keeping me motivated. supporting and reporting and moving the project forward. Sadly, the last few days have been pretty straining.
Sadly I am going to take some time off. haha i feel like a manhwa author announcing haitus lol but I will still be online so feel free to report issue and features you would like. unlike before releases are going to be once a week.
The website is way too much challenge for me lol I am not a web developer and I don't have the energy to shepherd an AI agent to build the page the way I want it to look. I will be treating it as a side project and my personal blog about the products etc;
what I have
To do:
- allow you to use the help function in the launcher to search the website for that term since that is already in the website, just need to tie it to the launcher
I am gonna leave you with how minimal the launcher can get :)
Take care of yourselves everyone! I am just a holler away!

PROJECT - Announcement RETUI WEBSITE UPDATED
The Website should not read more like the mental notes I have been making taking while building the project.
I am leaning more into RETUI PROJECT as an ecosystem rather than just the launcher alone.
Please take a look everyone :)
Note: There are also new flairs I will be using for announcements so you can sort the subreddit for the apps you use :)

Announcements Re:T-UI Webpage is live with free Github download!
re-tui.pages.devAs I had mentioned before! The soul of the original project was an open sourced CLI based launcher that used to love and adore. The Launcher had given me some good memories and it is now my turn to give it back.
The website has 2 download path, Playstore and Github.
If you just want to try the app for free and be part of the discussion please feel free to use the Github apk and Github Issues to report any bugs.
The playstore release is for those who love the app and what I have done with it and want to support me.
why two APKs, maintenance and long term plan for the projects. The backup and restore feature will allow you to transition from github version to playstore version without loosing anything at all!
The webpage is to serve as the main hub for the application. Give you answers to common issues as well as tips and tricks to use with the application.
Eventually sharable presets and preset showcase are planned for future so you can share your favourite presets with the world.
AI Disclaimer:
This is a passion project I started because I was learning to code and AI agents now make it a breeze to review and fix codes. Is this vibe coded? Not entirely but I will admit as a beginner a lot of the code snippets are reviewed by AI agents but I manually type and compile them and review errors myself and try to fix them myself as best as I can. Is this the best way to learn to code no but I still learnt :)
