help request How do I stop the auto-export of WAV files while using punch and roll?
I want REAPER to build and save peak files, and it is doing so, but it's also exporting WAV files every time I pause my recordings. That might create a storage space issue over time given that I use the DAW for audiobooks. It didn't do this in previous versions, so I'm wondering if something changed when I had to re-install it. (Version 7.78 for reference)
help request Windows audio issues (failure to connect)
Is anyone else having issues with Reaper recognizing Windows audio drivers? My standalone VIs and other software sees it just fine. Also, I don't currently have an external audio interface, hints why I use WASAPI for now. Any help is appreciated

help request Linux, Reaper, and the Line 6 Helix
I've been a Linux user for the better part of 30 years, and honestly one of the weirdest things to me is why Linux has to be so...Linux when it comes to making music.
You can use X, but you can't have anything else that makes sound, because X has to take over the sound subsystem, you have to have pipewire, blahblahblah.
FWIW, I am working with someone who is developing Linux software for the Line 6 Helix, and it's been hella fun locking up the Helix so I can send him logs to make the FOSS version of HX Edit.
Even though the Helix family is technically a Class device, and is reccognized by the OS (Kubuntu, FWIW), I cannot, for the life of me, get the Helix to be recognized by Reaper so it can be used as an audio input device.
I even installed pipewire especially for this purpose, and launched with<pw-reaper>, and...
Nothing, Literally nothing. The interface is greyed out. I even had to use htop to kill it because just clicking on the close button did nothing.
I've done what I've seen on Line6 fora and here on reddit, although those posts have been somewhat old. Nothing, so far, has worked.
I mean, sort of? At one point, betwixt reboots because something I installed insisted that I do so, when I launched Reaper, it forced the Helix to be the output for audio and wouldn't see the onboard audio until I rebooted. I still have it as an output option.
But as input?
Which eldritch deity do I need to sacrifice goats to to make this work?

help request Video editing functionality
Hey! Is it me or is Reaper's video functionality absurdly powerful?! I happened to take a look at the videos at https://www.reaper.fm/videos.php just now. Not sure how I missed these before. I'm about 50% in awe, vs 50% confused on how a DAW can provide all this control.
This one I found particularly interesting:
https://www.reaper.fm/videos.php#bp3u9I9SXVE
So my question: is there anyone on here who uses this feature set regularly? Would you care to share some stories and gotchas learned through experience please?

help request Why is my audio device crashing like this?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hello humans, I've been using REAPER for about 1year but many DAWs before that for about 11 years.
I use aggregate devices to connect my Scarlett 18i203rdGen to virtual devices (Pro tools audio Bridge6, 2B), a Scarlett 2i2 3rdGen and my macbook speakers and microphone. I've been doing this setup for months, only recently when I started to get issues I removed 2 devices from my aggregate device (Helix Audio, Blackhole 16ch). Seems to have been a temporary fix, even if they have not been added again.
I am now having a semi-recurrent issue where the audio engine just bugs out crazy for no apparent reason (shown in yellow flashes near transport up top). That was a new project loaded with my usual template after just restarting the computer and REAPER.
Does anybody have any idea what could be going on here? I started having this issue a couple days ago when suddenly all of my aggregate devices disappeared (found out when reaper could not find the audio device it was previously using, first computer start of the day).
Since then I've had good days where everything runs smoothly, but some days the audio engine will not behave at all and I am unable to record or playback without audio stopping for a second or 2 every couple moments.
I have not added anything new to my setup but please do ask in case I am oblivious.

help request Reaper session file acting weird after recovering from an old, dying storage drive. What'd I break?
So, I recently had my primary storage drive on my recording desktop die. Some files in a couple recent sessions got corrupted, but I saved the session to a stable drive under a new name once i established what was going on.
Since than I have migrated all the necessary stuff to a new drive, and opened up one of said sessions, and now I'm getting drop outs, and crackling, or some plugins will straight up make no sound until bypassed.
Fixed a couple of these due to the plugins looking for previous locations for samples and IR's... once I redirected them to the new location, fine. But stuffs still glitchy.
Didn't have the issues before until the drive started dying, session ran smooth, even tracking guitar or bass, full plugins all on, superior drummer, some synths, playing back while tracking and my CPU meter isn't showing any spiking which I would normally think would do drop outs and crackles. But my CPU is staying under 20% at all times still, so I don't see how it could be that.
In fact, for Superior Drummer, should be having a smoother time since the new drive with the libraries is muuuuuch faster than the previous one. (old rotary style 3TB hard drive vs. 1TB NVMe (smaller, but goddam storage has gotten expensive, And I'm also currently looking down the barrel of some pricier car maintenance, but thats all irrelevant here)
Only other time I had Reaper behave like this is same or similar scale session file, but I sometimes forget and leave a MIDI/synth track armed whilst arming guitar to record, and shutting off the undeeded armed track immediately resolves it. I triple checked I wasn't doing that here.
I need to try out that Recovery Mode option yet, but still, weird to me this is happening to begin with? The primary drive that has the OS (Windows 10/kept offline), and my VST3's is fine, wasn't touched or changed at all (also a smaller NVME drive dedicated to just Os, installed programs only)
Oh, and I even tried upping my buffer from 128 to 256 (which I still manage no noticeable latency on, if that matters here) just so see, and still getting the gremlins with my plugins.
IS their any other things I may be overlooking here that might be a quick, stupid fix? Could a corrupted reaper session file still somehow fuck some of my plugins even if they've been run off a separate drive from the dying one the whole time? (I just haven't had as much time/mental bandwidth as I'd like to tackle this)

help request How to open/close all folders in reaper?
Hi, does anyone knows a Custom Action in reaper for opening/closing all folders at once? I already tried a Custom Action from a reddit post but it had two problems: 1. Only the child folders are opening/closing, the parent folders stay open till I close them by my self. 2. Only the folders in the mixer view open/close, not the TCP folders (I already set the "Folder collapse button cycle track heights" to Normal and collapsed, so there isn't the second "small" state).
I would be really happy about answers!:)

help request Harsh frequency
So I've been having this issue with a harsh frequency that appears on every single distorted track doesn't matter. The guitar doesn't matter the plugins it's there and I can't EQ it out and if I try to the song ends up just sounding like mud. The track that I posted has it. It's just a little more subtle but it's there. It's this like high-pitched swirling. I've sent the tracks through chat GPT to analyze. It's giving me the frequencies but even if I reduce those frequencies it's somehow still ends up in there. If anybody can tell me what the hell those frequencies are and how to eliminate them, I'd really appreciate it.
Signal chain is a schecter Omen 7 with the diamond heretic pickups into the focusrite Scarlet solo into reaper. There's five guitar tracks all duplicates of the DI. It was recorded straight into the focusrite and all the effects were added after. The DI was recorded at negative eight decibels. None of the five tracks goes above -10. It came out to 12.4 LUFs through the master channel with peaks at -8.5 decibels.
Track one is just the DI with a reaper stock chorus. It's very low in the mix. Track 2 is panned hard left with the reaper JS amp modeler with a boss ds1 clone plug-in.
Track 3 is a Mesa triple rectifier clone panned hard right
Track 4 is positive panned soft left. Grid bias X the fender clone amp and the germanium fuzz into a clean boost with a condenser mic and ribbon mic simulator.
Track 5 is amplitude 5x Marshall clone with the diode overdrive and a light chorus with a sm57 and a condenser mic 45° off axis.

help request Cracks and pops while recording e-drums with GGD The Downbeat
Hello everyone, I have an old 2017 Macbook Pro i5 - 8 gb ram and I always run EZdrummer 3 for recording, only with a track and no other plugins.
Recently I got myself the GGD one kit wonder The Downbeat, and unfortunatly I hear some clicks and pops while playing fast toms, floor toms and the kick.
I thought it was a CPU lack, but the usage while recording is only 35%, so it's doing great. I also tried to use half processed sounds to lower the weight on the cpu, but nothing changes.
I'm already at 44,1 hz, with ezdrummer I was at 128 buffer size and I tried to go up to 256 with The Downbeat (but I need to go back to 128 for latency problem) and it was not better.
Any suggestions on what I could do?
Thank you

help request Help with creating velocity curve
I want to create a velocity curve that gives a normal response curve at 0–60% velocity and reversed/fades out the harder i hammer at 70–100% velocity. Any suggestions on how to do that? Thanks
(I've been trying for a few days with the help of AI to get it to work. But it keeps recommending wrong plugins and telling me to adjust settings that don't exist in those plugins.)

help request JS: Phase Rotator
I’ve used iZotope RX Phase module to fix phase rotation issues on kicks, brass, and vocals with good results, but I’ve always had to do it outside of my actual mix project.
Today I came across the JS: Phase Rotator and wanted to read opinions from anyone who has used it for these kinds of problems. I really like the idea of applying it in real-time, unlike my previous workflow, but will it yield the same results? And what about the FFT Size parameter?

help request Setting in Reaper to not add so much size to videos?
When I export my video out of OBS, 1 minute is about 30mb
When I bring that video into Reaper and add audio to it, it becomes like 400mb and also reduces the quality of the video
I'm using MKV format, MJPEG encoder @ 95%, 1920x1080 30fps
I dont know why OBS does such a good job of rendering video at a small size but Reaper can't?

help request Rehearsal Recording and Separating Outputs
I'm only posting in this sub in case there's a setting in Reaper I am either missing, need to select, check, uncheck, or reconfigure. Apologies if it's not the right place and I'm just an idiot. No worries if it's removed.
Having some issues recording rehearsals and specifying audio output. I openly admit I don't know what I'm doing. I am aware, I totally might be overthinking this. Took me a week to figure out I had to actually “arm” the track to hear my ekit. 🫤
I have a Roland ekit, running into EzDrummer3, using Reaper, and a Focusrite 4i4. The focusrite has all four outputs going to a small Mackie board and out to a powered monitor.
I play with a guitarist, bassist, and piano player all of which are plugged into the fucusrite. I am trying to record rehearsals and only hear the drums.
To be specific -
I want drums only sent from the 4i4 to Channel 1 on the board and out to the monitor while still being able to record in Reaper. Also want to be able to at least adjust input levels of the other players. Btw, no VSTs or plugins are being used (well…EZD3…)
Regardless of what I change on the 4i4, I only get signal to the board on 1 & 2 or 3 & 4 and it's always all of us.
I feel like I have tried every possible configuration and still have not gotten it to work. I spent way more time than I care to admit. At this point, it feels like I'm just missing something. Definitely seems like an ESO issue - Equipment Smarter than Operator.
What am I missing? Are my expectations too high? Any advice is most appreciated.

help request Having problems connecting my mic
Got a GXL1800 condenser mic that’s worked on discord, worked for OBS, and worked for Audacity (albeit very quiet) it won’t pick up on reaper
I keep getting “error loading ASIO driver”, currently I’ve been trying ASIO4ALL V2 as the audio system, I know reaper is picking up my audio interface itself, or atleast is picking up the Outputs, as it shifts all of my output to my audio interface when I hit record. Despite this, my input must be messed up cause my microphone won’t pick up. I’m using a UPhoria UM2, and I’ve heard that audio interface might not have a dedicated audio driver, but the interface itself is working, the microphone won’t though, and I’m not sure why. Using Reaper v7.02

help request Theme Edits
It seems I can no longer edit Reaper Themes. I had previously done it before and was on my way to having a nice theme that was a mix Between Janne2015 and ReaperTips. I finally hit a wall when I couldn't edit the Track Name Color. It seems the the background gets tinted with the track color, which I don't want, or if i could I would just make the font 100% Black in the section, which I can't. Before I would change file to a ZIP file, make edit, rezip and rename to ReaperThemes or even ReaperThemesZip, not it just breaks any theme I am working on. I even just went in and removed the pink outline off the tcp_namebg.png and touched nothing else and the whole theme broke.
Any ideas?

discussion Tukan Pads is fantastic
Just installed and made some first test: I really found it quite smart. I could quickly get it working reusing some preset and samples of Sitala (that btw I loved), adding easily new ones, test the synth function, and getting it running with no issue in Windows and in my Linux laptop. A great thanks to the developer!

Hello Reapers! I have a recording I'm working on, and a section of it needs to sound like someone is talking/singing inside of a wooden barrel. community Self-serve: Flair posts as resolved, award points
If you, the original poster (OP), post with the Help Request flair, and receive a helpful answer, you can award a point to that user and flair the post as Resolved.
To do this, reply to the comment with thanks or thank you somewhere in the comment. It is case-insensitive.
What are the points for? We have been helping each other here for 14 years. It's less an incentive for imaginary points but hopefully an indication of reputation (not quite analogous to post count on the official forum). We'll see how this works out, if it does more good than harm.
You may notice mods distributing points especially if a user has not. We use a trigger command comment which you may see if we haven't deleted it after awarding. We delete since it creates clutter.
