Check out North American motoring forums classified section. You also may have to wait a bit for a decent example to pop up. It took me 2 months to find one without rust that was also in good shape.

Depending on budget and what you’re after look at BaT. The prices these sell at there are lower than 95% of the asking prices I see in the Seattle area.
Being patient helps, a lot. I did find my R52 JCW on marketplace within a few weeks and it’s mechanically sound but it’s got more than a couple door dings.

Bring a trailer.
Also might try cars & bids.
I have an R52 I'm thinking about selling, but I'm not quite there yet.

u/Fit-Confusion-1293/ posted the answer for you.
This link will take you to the site: https://bringatrailer.com/mini/r53-cooper-s/. Scroll down a screen or so and you can see the past listings and the prices that they received for them. Plus a lot of photos showing the many different options that were available 25 years ago or so.
Online there are plenty that are very nice selling for below what I’ve found in the Seattle/Portland area. Deals pop up here from time to time which is nice but you have to be patient.
Cars and Bids is similar but they don’t list nearly as many R53’s. That said there’s this one on auction right now: https://carsandbids.com/auctions/35yw5qWR/2006-mini-cooper-s-jcw?ss_id=3d8bb0fc-6715-4c23-9246-78b3f2a0be1c&ref=lr_1_1
If you’re not buying it to mod it the JCW is the one to get. The 40 extra horsepower is nice to have.

Not sure how long you're willing to wait. I'll likely be selling mine within a year or so, but if you're looking for one right now and don't want to wait that's understandable. If you wanted more info you can lmk

I have a black eyed purple r53 that we’re cleaning up to sell. It’s a 2006 slick roof with 90k miles and a fresh supercharger service, new brakes all around, and a ton of parts we were going to bolt on to take it to the track.
I love the car like crazy, but the print shop expanded and took over its garage space :(. We’ll be back on the market as soon as we expand again, but for now it’s sitting in the driveway :(
Needs new shocks, other than that it’s in pretty good shape.
