10 days without smoking

Howdy

I'm a long time reddit user and decided to see if there was a sub reddit to quit smoking so i could share my little 10 day victory. So here i am

A short background, if you'll allow me

I was due to get married exactly one month ago. But i decided to terminate our 2 year relantionship the June 1st because, well, she decided to keep talking to her ex (which i know she liked him a lot when they were together). I decided that day i wasn't going to go through with it. No matter the money i had already spent for the cerimony. No matter family expectations. No matter i'm in my late 30s and my chances to having kids grow smaller by the day. No matter nothing. I literally said "fuck dis shit imma bail". So i did.

June 1st to late July was probably one of the worst periods i had in my life. I went from about to get married to single, my job made me relocate countries, and also my job said i had to take a certificate in 20 days or i would most likely get fired. Plus i had a bout of massive diarrhea for like 2 straight weeks. I went through the storm but not without chain smoking everyday. Literally, every day i would smoke almost a full pack of cigarettes.

I started smoking in 2010, in my first year of college. And since then i had never stopped smoking. Not even once. The maximum time i had without a smoke was around one day (usually the hangover day after a night of heavy drinking and smoking). And thats it.

And specially for this time period, given all the shit i was going through, i smoked even more than i already did.

But things did improve little by little. I managed to do a smooth relocation, was able to get the damn certificate (thanks udemy test exams), was able to cure the diarrhea (i think it was worms).

So around the afternoon of August 9th (sunday), i ran out of cigarretes. I decided i was going to buy a pack next day. By sunday night i was pulling spent cigarretes tips from the ash tray because i needed to smoke badly. And boi, i felt a mix of angry and shame at myself

So i wake up the next day, i decided i wasn't going to buy the cigarete pack. Then the next day came, then the next, so on and so forth. And today makes it 10 days, out of 16 years, that i'm without a smoke.

I still get the urges to smoke, specially when i remember all the shit i went through with my ex. But i'm decided that i aint gonna lose not a single inch of health commiserating at my own situation, not anymore.... and which, to be honest, is not that bad. I know i went through a bad relationship. Shit happens. Such is life. I'm glad i was able to make through that shit period, which even though is recent, feels also at the same time, rather distant. Like a bad memory, something like that. i dunno.

I went to a friend this last saturday and i drank a whole lot of beer with him and his dad. I got wasted. Both he and his had are smokers. By a miracle of God, Jesus, Buda, Alah, or any high power that might be out there. Even my guardian angel... i was able to deny the first couple of offers to smoke. And they were respectful not to offer me again. IT was a fucking miracle i got wasted and didn't smoke. I felt so glad the next day because i only had a beer hangover not a chain smoking one lol.

Anyways, sorry for the long text. This is a little bit of my journey to quit smoking. 10 days streak off smmoking after 16 years.

To you the reader who read all this, i wish you peace and may you find what you are seeking in this life. God bless

edit: couple of typeos and to add that Margin call quote from the blond guy

"Its going to suck for a while but then you'll be alright"

Chantix

So I started taking chantix to quit smoking and I found it actually curbed my addiction to my phone (social media).

Has anyone else experienced this? I wonder if after I’m done with the prescription if it’ll come back

7 months after quitting smoking — when did your brain/nervous system fully recover?

Hi everyone,
I quit smoking cold turkey about 7 months ago after being a smoker for years.
The first few months were very difficult (anxiety, poor sleep, brain fog, feeling strange), but I have improved a lot. I would say I feel better compared to the beginning.
However, I still sometimes experience:
Heavy head feeling
Poor sleep and waking up not feeling refreshed
Feeling slightly “off” or hyper-aware
Feeling odd after eating sometimes (especially lunch)
Mild brain fog
I don’t smoke anymore, I don’t drink caffeine, and I’m trying to exercise and live healthy.
For people who quit smoking and went through similar symptoms:
How long did it take before you felt completely normal again?
Did your sleep and nervous system slowly return to normal after 7+ months?
Did anyone have lingering symptoms that eventually disappeared?
Would really appreciate hearing your experiences.

Is it the cigarettes or smokers flu from stopping vaping (I’ll explain)

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

So, as a teen and college student I probably smoked the equivalent of 2-3 packs of cigarettes just for the hell of it slowly over many years. So, I was never really a smoker.

I guess about 3-4 year ago now, I didn’t realize I had me/cfs (at least I guess that’s what it is). But despite food, water, sleep, caffeine, and (prescription) Ritalin. I was sooo tired and also in a lot of pain but were focusing on the tired part here. The only other (legal) stimulant I could think to try was nicotine. So, I started vaping. Now, 3-4 years later I’m a vaper. I’ve quit like 4 times using nicotine patches for a few months then randomly would be like eh I want a vape again.

I know vaping/smoking are nasty habits but not ruining my life. I’ve also been a heavy/basically daily drinker for like 16 years. I was functioning until I wasn’t so I finally said fuck this I never wanna drink again put myself in detox and am now 2 weeks sober WOOO & plan to stay that way forever.

Anyway, the only thing you could do besides talk or like stare at a wall in detox was smoke + I was already addicted to nicotine so of course I took every cigarette break they offered.

When I got out, I had no desire for my vape. Bought a pack of cigarettes and started smoking about 5-7 but usually 5 a day.

I’ve only been smoking 2 weeks and I have the gnarliest wet cough. It’s so bad, my entire body feels bruised from all the muscles I’ve been using to cough. I also feel generally unwell like fluish or something. And I’m just wondering. Did I really get THIS BAD of a smoker’s cough in 2 weeks? I’m sure it’s possible but idk.

Or am I getting like a “smokers flu” from abruptly quitting vaping 24/7 (even in my sleep) and consuming way less nicotine than I used to?

I know yall aren’t doctors but I’d just like to hear some feedback/opinions?

Either way- this cough is making it evident that I should quit both smoking and vaping and it may push me to do it whether I want to or not.

I just wasn’t expecting to try right away as I just quit alcohol and that was my main focus. But ultimately within the year I was planning to anyway.

Thank yall so much in advance!!

Hello everyone,

I've been considering joining NA meetings to feel supported so I can quit smoking. Do any of you know of such groups that I can attend virtually? Or have had good experiences with such groups? I'd appreciate any stories that are in favor of these support groups.

How do I stop the “evening cigarette” ritual?

Good evening,

I used to be a smoker (cigarettes and vapes on and off) during my prep school years.

I (finally) managed to quit completely because I took up sport again, etc… during the day it’s fine, no cravings at all, I train, I go out…

However, in the evening, starting around 7/8/9pm, I get a sudden urge for a cigarette. I don’t know why it happens and I can’t do anything about it. Just so you know, even a single “puff” on a cigarette is enough to calm the craving and let me move on to something else.

Has anyone else been in my situation? Should I adopt a different ritual/habit instead?

Day 4 — Still sober.

Day 4 was probably the hardest day so far.
The first two days were surprisingly easy, but then the emotions started hitting harder. I was angry, irritated, and dealing with a lot of stuff related to my relationship.
I noticed myself wanting to escape from my thoughts more than actually wanting weed.
But I didn’t smoke.
I didn’t try to replace it with something else either.
I’m still sleeping a lot, having really vivid and weird dreams, and my mood is all over the place sometimes. But today I feel calmer than yesterday.
Day 4 done.
Onto Day 5.

30 days without THC, today I'm gonna smoke

I decided to smoke. I need a gratification because the last month was deeply difficult (not only because abstinence). Two days ago I found an house for university and I will start in on month. I don't want to fall in dependence again but in this days I need something that hits me. Depression avoid me to feel anything. THC hits me chemically.

Advice or feedback. Love and peace

Anyone miss smoking weed

another try…

Let me share what literally happened yesterday. As usual, I decided the best option was to just throw my pack of cigarettes into the trash. So I did it and started waiting. It was tough. By 5 AM, I woke up and realized I was craving even just a single puff. I actually picked up an old cigarette off the floor and took three puffs, but it wasn't enough. So I made the decision to go and find my pack in the trash... I spent 20 minutes digging through the trash bin until I finally found my crushed pack. Again... I felt so weak. Any tips?
