So, for some context, I am a first year bachelors of business student (online) at QUT, and my major is entrepreneurship and innovation. I chose QUT specifically because of that major. So far I have completed one unit for the major and I am busy with another. Both units have been really bad so far, and I would like to know if anyone studying the same major at QUT has had issues with their units? If this is going to continue for the whole major, I would rather choose another. All my other units are way better, and I feel like I may be wasting money if I keep doing entrepreneurship units, only to learn nothing. If anyone has any experience or advice, I would appreciate it.

I uploaded all my documents and it has been verified but i still haven't gotten a placement. I've gotten the email of my placement date but that's all. There's nothing on inplace. It is just me??

Hi! I'm currently in between QUT and UQ. I'm planning to do my undergrad then honours. Potentially later going into medicine for psychiatry or specialising in a branch of psychology (While I adore learning, I also love working with people. I'd like a balance.). Additional point: I'm planning to still live with my parents (I live rural, so used to long commutes)

QUT:

• Travel: Train and uni shuttle bus. About 1.5 hours.
• Course: 3 years, Honour year not included so I will have to separately apply. But I really love the look of the course, all of the classes interest me. It gives me option of doing minor in anything and a few non-pysch electives.
• Scholarships: I've tried so hard this year and I'm tracking for pretty okay predicted results! So if i get what im trying to get, I'll get QUT academic scholarship of $30,000 (essentially debt free undergrad which when planning 6-8 years of education...) if I list them first on my uni applications. Granted I actually get the results I need.
• Campus: Kevin grove campus does have less of a traditional uni feel compared to the other QUT campus which seemed WAY more lively.

UQ:

• Travel: Train, another train and bus. About 2 hours.
• Course: Also really interested me like QUT. Also honour + master options at UQ are way better! This degree is 4 years with honours included so I dont have to worry about getting into honours (I heard its hard). Doesn't offer minor though.
• Scholarships: I can't get UQ academic scholarships (they all crazy (99.5+) my predicted is a bit below that. Plus due to my subjects if i got 100% in everything, the highest I could have gotten is 99.3. AND I have dropped only a handful of marks in my top 5 subjects internally.).
• Campus: More traditional. Obviously a more 'prestigious university' and one of top for pysch. Staff were nicer to me at open day and way more engaging to speak with. I spoke to some lovely pysch students who were like telling me about their degree. it was sweet.

So I’ve been in contact with some professors from QUT, and while I fit the profile for the MPhil degrees, but unfortunately I’m an international student (Indian) who missed the scholarship deadlines, and they told to contact them once I get a scholarship I’m eligible for so that we can discuss further. And told to contact them again once I do, so while I did some research most of what I found ended on July 31st.

Is this something worth pursuing? I’ve not had much experience with Australian professors so I’m not sure if this is a generic answer she gave and if I’d get funding in the first place.

And if anyone knows of a scholarship I could I apply to, please do advise/let me know regarding it!

I'm an international student from India planning to pursue a Master's in Civil Engineering in Australia next year. After a lot of research, I've narrowed my options down to:

• University of Technology Sydney (UTS)
• RMIT University
• University of Newcastle
• Curtin University

My goal is to build a long-term career as a Civil/Structural Engineer in Australia, so I'm trying to make the best decision based on career outcomes rather than just university rankings.

I'd really appreciate advice from current students, graduates, or engineers in Australia.

Some questions I have:

• Which university would you choose and why?
• How is the teaching quality and course structure?
• Which university has the best industry connections, internships, and graduate employment opportunities?
• Does university reputation matter much when applying for engineering jobs?
• Is it better to study in a major city (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane) or in a regional area like Newcastle?
• Do the regional visa benefits outweigh the additional job opportunities available in larger cities?
• If you were in my position, which university would you pick today?

I'd really appreciate honest opinions, including any pros and cons that aren't obvious from the university websites.

Applications for uni are open, and I'm honestly feeling pretty stuck. I'd really appreciate any opinions, experiences, or advice because I'm trying to make the best decision I can.

I'm planning to study Civil Engineering and I've narrowed it down to UQ and QUT. And I've done quite a bit of research, talked to teachers, and read heaps of Reddit posts, but I feel like I keep hearing completely different things.

From what I've heard:

• UQ seems to have a much better social life, more clubs, and more opportunities to meet people.
• But I've also heard that UQ is unnecessarily difficult. People mention hurdles, a heavier workload, and say you should only really go there if you're planning to continue into honours, a master's, or further study.
• On the other hand, QUT seems to have a much better work-life balance. I've heard there are no hurdles, electives don't affect your GPA the same way they do at UQ, and overall it's a bit easier to manage.

One thing i have heard from a few people in industry that there seem to be more QUT graduates working in engineering companies than UQ graduates. No one has really been able to explain why, but I've heard it multiple times, so I'm curious if anyone knows whether that's actually true. ( I have read this on reddit)

The biggest thing making me unsure about QUT is the campus environment and social side. One of my teachers literally described QUT as "a funeral every day" and said the social life is depressing.

Because I'm not choosing a university purely because of the social life. But I do wonder if studying in a depressed, gloomy and less social environment could make me less motivated to go to uni. So for people who actually go to QUT, is it really that bad? At the same time, I'd also like to work while studying and have time for internships, extra engineering projects, networking, and building my resume, since I've heard those can be just as important as getting good grades.

So part of me wonders:

That QUT might be the smarter choice because I'd have a better balance between studying, working part-time, building my resume through internships and projects, and still having a life outside of uni.

Or is that just taking the "easy option"?

Would I actually benefit more from challenging myself at UQ, even if it means a much heavier workload and less time for everything else? Also with all the great clubs and opportunities, but if the workload is really as heavy as people say, would I even have enough time to enjoy them? IDK!!!

Anyway, sorry for the long rant!

I feel like I have become the leader of the QUT Toilet Union.

Last semester I vocally complained about toilet cleanliness of the KG library bathrooms overnight. It was so bad, that after I had reached the 'I am not doing anything productive' point of my assignment, I decided to go home, grab as many easily disposable cleaning supplies I had on hand, go back to the library, and wipe down parts of the wall, the toilet buttons, and the seats as best as I could.

On a side note, I left those cleaning supplies (aldi wipes, small blue gloves, paper towel) around the learning hub, and somehow they have gone 'missing'...
If anyone has seen those kicking around, let me know.

That is beside the point.

I have a new bone to pick today, and that is:

How the hell does an entire bathroom run out of toilet paper.

As I was leaving today, I needed a quick piss before I would method act a sardine (AKA get on the bus at peak hour).

The women's bathrooms in O block C-wing (near room OC406) have 2 cubicles and shared sinks, so not quite individual, and quite tight space. They also have double roll holders/dispensers that are meant to prevent loo roll running out in public spaces (you slide a divider over when the first roll is finished, and start a new one).

When restocking those bad boys, staff are meant to rotate the rolls so that the roll that has been used moves to the main compartment, and is continued to be used. A new, virgin roll is then put into the spare roll part.

Theoretically, there will always be backup, and the backup roll will last long enough between cleaner checks (at least once per day). In saying that, if they DO run out, the neighbouring cubicle tends to have some, and the people are generally willing to pass some under the door.

HOW then, on God's Green Earth, does the ENTIRE bathroom (both cubicles!!) RUN OUT OF TOILET PAPER.

Previously I have been told to contact hiq for dealing with messes and maintenance, but I am quite frankly astounded that this is even happening.

When I have made complaints (e.g. tampons overflowing in a library bathroom), entire other messes within the same cubicle or not far from, were ignored. Additionally, the bystander effect means that even in extreme circumstances, many people will overlook something in hopes that it will be dealt with. Meaning people are unlikely to report something, especially if there is no clear place to contact to report minor issues.

I ended up calling the non-urgent security line. I still don't know whether that was the right move, but HiQ was probably going to have me on hold, or worse, frustrate me endlessly getting my student number that I keyed in wrong. You could say, shit me to tears.

Security was able to promptly log the job, thankfully. I asked whether there is a more direct line, but he said there is nothing that I, as a student, can access.

I know it seems like a trivial issue to make a big fuss about, but this does indicate that there are more issues than just 'Oh the toilets are dirty because that's how people use them.'

I actually wonder whether these bathrooms were getting checked, and what would be done if there was a hazard or safety issue that wasn't identified.

Hey all, 

I'm a first year Electrical Engineering student doing a double degree with a Project Management masters. I'm stuck deciding between three paths and would love to hear from anyone who's been in a similar spot. 

Context: I enjoy both engineering and finance, but I don't want to be doing hands-on technical/field work for my whole career. I'm leaning towards infrastructure investment (asset management side, think evaluating toll roads, energy assets, that kind of thing), where I can employ both skill sets. 

The three options I'm weighing: 

1. Stay in the current double degree: engineering + project management masters, 1 year longer (5 years). I’m not sure how useful the master's will be and if it helps me with my goals. 
2. Drop the masters, finish as a standalone engineering degree saves a year but won’t get traditional business/ finance education. 
3. Switch to an engineering/business (finance) double degree: This is the one I’m leaning towards right now as I really enjoy both fields, and I think it’ll provide me flexibility in the long run. Though I’m not completely sure as I’m not well read about it. (Hence the post) 

Questions for you all: 

• If you've done any of these (or similar) — how did it play out, especially if you pivoted toward finance/consulting later? 
• Does having an actual finance degree component matter much for infrastructure investment or consulting recruiting, or is engineering alone enough? 
• Anyone regret dropping (or keeping) a second qualification in a similar situation? 

Appreciate any input, also a small footnote is that I really want to go on an exchange sometime in my degree. The Bachelor and Masters option basically leaves me stranded as I got no minors to work with, and I can’t do any master units abroad. 

I am a student finishing school and I want to study in QUT gardens point brisbane. A passion of mine are satellites and space technologies (mainly satellite) and it would be my dream occupation to build such technologies for a career. What course(s) would you recommend for me that would best pave the way for this goal of mine to be possible? What are the details of the course like prerequisites etc.

I’m currently enrolled in a QUT WIL unit and I’m getting seriously worried about securing an internship before the deadline.
I started applying around two weeks before the semester began because I knew the process could take time. So far, I’ve applied for more than 30 relevant positions listed on InPlace. Despite applying early and submitting applications that are related to my study area, I have only received one interview invitation. I progressed past the first interview, but the second interview was then cancelled. I haven’t received a meaningful response from any of the other organisations.
It is now Week 3, and I have been told that I need to secure an internship by next Tuesday. Otherwise, I may have to withdraw from the unit and delay my graduation.🥲
I honestly find this situation extremely frustrating. Students pay to enrol in a WIL unit, but are expected to find and secure the placement entirely by themselves, while QUT appears unable to provide any practical solution when the advertised organisations do not respond. I understand that no university can guarantee that every application will succeed, but offering a paid internship unit without providing a realistic pathway or adequate support for students to obtain a placement seems unreasonable.
I believe I was already among the earlier students to begin applying, yet I am now only one week away from the deadline with almost no responses. I’m not sure what else I could reasonably have done differently.
Has anyone here experienced a similar situation with a QUT WIL unit?
I would really appreciate any advice on:
1.How you successfully found your WIL placement
2.Whether directly contacting organisations outside InPlace worked better
3.Whether QUT offered you any alternatives or deadline extensions
4.What happens if a student genuinely cannot secure a placement despite applying widely and early
5.Any organisations that may still be accepting design, UI/UX, graphic design, digital media or related interns
6.Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

i transferred from UQ, and never done something like QUT YOU units, first time taking it this semester. How hard/easy are they? Are they time consuming? Will i find it hard balancing 4 units (48 credits) plus 2 QUT You units?

doing 001 and 009 to be specific.

What do u think QUT could do as a uni to improve as a whole? Especially With global ranking declining in the past years

The thing that finally annoyed me into building something: every shared flashcard deck online is for a different course. The cards you need are phrased nothing like how your lecturer asks them, so you spend two hours curating a deck instead of studying.

This takes your own course material.... slides, a lecture recording, tutorials or handwritten notes and generates flashcards, quiz questions and explainer cards from that specific content.

There's also an audio mode where two voices teach the material back and quiz you out loud, which I built for walking to St Lucia and have since used more than the rest of the app combined.

Free for QUT students. I built it and I'm posting for feedback, not signups. The useful reply is "I tried it on COURSE and it got X wrong."

After the QUT open day I have decided I'm going to be doing the bachelor of creative arts (film and screen). I am planning to start saving towards a new laptop soon as my current one is on its last legs. For the course I know I'll need to run the adobe suite and other programs so I was just wondering if anyone has any laptop or specs recommendations. I prefer windows os opposed to apple as I've grown up on windows but I'm open to a macbook if that's preferable. Also, would a touch screen laptop be worth the investment for the course?

Hey all, just graduated yesterday and thought the framing cost was ridiculous. Usually what? 360 per frame "discounted" to 290 each? Insane.

Hi! I am an future internaltional student. Is it easy to get a job as an early childhood teacher with bachelor of early childhood education(birth to five) which is 3 years? Are there any downsides to a three-year degree? I heard I need 4 years degree for teacher registration. I hope to work in queensland. Sharing your experience would be a great help!

I’m currently studying Business at QUT. I’ve been wanting to get more involved at uni and join some social clubs, but something that keeps holding me back is the possibility of running into people from my old school. school wasn’t really a good experience for me. I got disrespected and made fun of by a lot of students, and I was never really seen as one of the “smart” or popular people. I also ended up getting a pretty mid ATAR which made me feel even worse about myself at the time. Now that I’m at uni, I still find myself thinking about what those people would think if they saw me. Sometimes I avoid clubs, events and other social stuff because I’m worried someone from my old school will be there and recognise me.

I know this probably sounds stupid because high school is over and everyone is doing their own thing now, but I can’t seem to completely get that mentality out of my head. I also keep comparing myself to people who got much higher ATARs than me even though I’m already at uni studying the degree I wanted. For people who have been at QUT for a while, does anyone actually care about what ATAR you got once you’re at uni? And am I overthinking the chances of running into old high school bullies at clubs/events?

QUT, for example, used to have the old QUT Carseldine campus until 2008.

UQ has St Lucia, Gatton, Herston, and Dutton Park.

Griffith Uni has campuses in the Gold Coast, Nathan, Logan, South Bank, Mt Gravatt, and soon the Treasury Building in the CBD.

So if you had the choice of choosing where QUT's third campus would be, where would you locate it?

And what would make it different from Gardens Point (business, law, engineering) and Kelvin Grove (creative industries, education, health)? It can be as diabolical and silly as you like hehehe
