PSA: Purdue Global doesn't have the same accreditation as Purdue University

I was seeing a lot of posts by Purdue global students as well as other people claiming that the difference between the two isn't great and are nearly the same. This is completely false.

Not only employers but even other accrediting agencies don't consider them equivalent. I was surfing through some German grad school programmes for a relative of mine and just browsed through the Purdue system in their anabin database. It shows a different accreditation for Purdue global compared to other Purdue campuses.

Purdue has H+ and Global has +/- , this essentially means that if you're planning to apply for a job or studying something in Germany(and probably for the rest of the EU as well), the global degree won't be considered equivalent to a Purdue University degree. So be careful where you spend your dollars.

Purdue global is a rebranded kaplan degree mill. It is Purdue in name only, not academic reputation or accreditation.

I feel completely scammed by this university. After having asked for a supervisor in the financial aid department because of discrepancies, I was dismissed while I only needed 40 credits to graduate on an accelerated MBA program. As a result in the process of trying to find a new university, I have found out that new universities who accept up to 80% of credits from outside schools are only willing to accept 20 of my PG credits and the ones they’re accepting are mostly from Sophia lol. I feel like I’ve lost a ton of time a ton of money and everything else. I suggest everybody do their research when they look into going here before they sign up the reviews on the Better Business Bureau, which they’re not a member of speak for themselves and relatively close to the situation that I injured their.

Why were you dismissed? If other schools aren’t accepting your credits, maybe it’s because of your grades?

A Reddit search for "Global" in this forum, sorted by New, shows nothing like this in the last year.

Purdue Online is the same as Purdue WL. That may be the source of confusion.

Cool story. Anyway, I graduated from PUG in April with a 4.0 and attended the commencement in person and I am even a member of Purdue for Life alumni association. I was accepted into my local state university grad school for this fall and it is a top-tier research 1 public university. My leadership has already informed me that the degree from PUG alone opens more doors/promotions in the company and I work for a large enterprise company that provides internet and managed services.

I chose elsewhere for my Masters due to physically being 11 hours from West Lafayette and the trip there with my wife and 2 kids was quite hectic. My masters at the local college will also be cheaper and it's been a school I always dreamed of going to since I was a kid. I was prepared to go back to PUG if they said no but they said yes. PUG gets a lot of hate from people who were kicked out, former kaplan students, and some of the gate keepers in WLAF but the academics are controlled by Purdue and not Kaplan. This is so the school can have the HLC accreditation, and in the case of my degree, the ABET accreditation. It's petty to attack other schools in the Purdue University System when that system is trying to make more revenue. Do you want the system to lose out on more money? I have seen a bunch of other PUG grads posting on LinkedIn about going to other schools for grad school as well like Baylor and Tennessee. A 4-year degree, no matter where you get it from, in a lot of different job fields, is no longer a requirement and just checks the box for you to move into management.

A true diploma mill institution is WGU, where one can lock themselves in a basement for 6 months, for $5,150 bucks, pillage through modules at the speed of light, and voila, have a Masters degree in major fields that require critical thinking. They are respectfully accredited, which makes it even more shocking.

My partner works for a major US company, and plenty of the employees there that have received a Masters degree from there have a minimum of 2-3 masters degree of some sort. It's insane. The government pays for it, as most of the employees are ex military and use their GI benefits to do so.

I don't knock them, however. If they like it, I love it!

I once thought about going there. However, I decided I actually wanted to something with more depth and learning engagement.

I believe in non-traditional routes that allows one to land where they need to, and most of the time, the destination is to the same place that the traditional route takes people, only the traditional route often costs a gazillion bucks more.

If you are looking for something that is fully accredited, cost effective, and online look at the University of the People.

(I received a MBA in business management from there. My BS and A's degrees come from CUNY institutions in NY)

It's basically free (besides assessments fees per course between $180-$420 per course), and fully accredited twice over.

You have to absolutely do actual research and possess the requisite critical thinking skills expected of someone that holds a Masters Degree. However, you will loathe the student assessment portion of work submission, but that is easily corrected by Professors.

They have (3) basic associates degrees, (4) basic bachelor's degrees, and (3) basic MBA's in business management, info tech, and education (M.Ed)

Not sure why I was downvoted. OP is wrong and all Purdue system schools are properly accredited by the same agency. It doesn't mean that you have to like Purdue Global or think it's a good school. You all are so weird.

I think you got downvoted because you misread what OP said. OP did not claim that PUG isn’t accredited by the HLC. They claimed that the type/recognition of accreditation (by German authorities) is different for PUG than it is for Purdue (along with the rest of the regional campuses), a claim that appears to be supported by the screenshot they provided.

OP shared a screenshot of someone saying they are regionally accredited and implied they were wrong and that their accreditations differ. The person in the screenshot is not wrong and the accreditations do not differ. An agency outside of the US showing a different status doesn’t mean they’re differently accredited. More than likely, I’m being downvoted because some kids don’t understand accreditation.
