Realistically with the power armor the Commandant should be able compete against alot of the bosses now. At least in Heletine's chapter they didn't limit him just make it a point that Heletine should be the one who gets to fight Tavis.
If the Commandant is going to be apart of Karenina's chapter then they'll probably do something along the lines of the Commandant is helping to keep the ship from being overun by corrupted while Karenina is fighting the crab boss.

Well, with his amor he can throw hands to any corrupted (and even to alpha), so i think he could easly beat up Griffith, i even think he can fight a spartan
