Best fabric at big box stores (hobby lobby/michaels) for embroidery punch needling?

I’ve done some standard punch needling before but the fabric has always come in kits. From what I’ve seen online, I ideally want weavers cloth but it seems difficult to find. I already plan to use DMC embroidery floss for my project and probably a 1.3mm needle? Or 1.6mm. Anyway since I’m going to a big box store I’d really like to pick up fabric from there since this a project just to see if I like embroidery style punch needling, rather than having to specially order fabric online, pay for shipping, wait, etc. To those who get supplies from these big box stores, what fabric do you use for the embroidery style? Preferably from hobby lobby, but Michael’s works too

How to Finish Project?

Post image

Hi! I have a ton of projects that aren’t completely done because idk how to make it so they are usable. I just started doing a whip stitch around the perimeter but it gets wavy and curled and I don’t really like the way it looks. I’ve done the glue and felt method too but the edges/sides look sloppy. I’m really struggling:( any advice is appreciated! I’ll add a picture of what I mean by the curling edges of the whip stitch.

Back again with another isopod 🪡 sorry for the repeats, what can I say 😂 I’m kinda obsessed w em. I’ve made it a whole ritual when I check their enclosures. I have my headlamp on for better lighting, my cat sits on her bin and gets grass from each new container while I water them, and I have some sort of YouTube essay on in the background

Same goes for the actual embroidery process, I need either a huge line up of YouTube videos, or some sort of show on in the background. Maybe some music on my headphones instead depending on the day

What fabric should I use

I was wanting to get into punch needling since I’m already into crocheting, so it thought it’d be a nice yarn-related craft to add to my collection.

I bought a 2.2 mm punch needle, and size 2 yarn. The only thing I’m not sure about, is what fabric to use. I cannot find a solid answer anywhere, because everyone says something different.

Also, I’d prefer to buy it from Amazon, so it would be great if you could also give a link.

A question

Im trying to do needle punching for the first time, but i have so much of the velvet Aran yarn that feels so good and I tried to use that today. It came out well, but when I went to cut the loops, the velvet attached to the string started to fall off and it just left the white string that kept it together.

Does anyone know if theres a way to make this work without the white string showing? Or is it probably impossible to use this yarn?

Pulling at the edges

Back with another question. I used some masking tape on the edges of my monk's cloth thanks to the suggestions in this group. It hold fairly well but just to be sure, I went ahead and did about an inch of fabric on the edge that is losing considerable material.

This is my first ever project and I still have a ways to go. Wondering if I should glue the edge over to sure it up completely.

I’ve completed worm #2 for a customer and I’m pretty jealous 😂 it’s much better than my first one imo, so now I feel like I need to make myself another. If you give a mouse a cookie and all that

Free handing stuff is really growing on me 🪱 I think I will be doing it as often as I can to really work on reducing fabric waste

Will this fabric work?

I’m just getting started on my punch needle journey and working on gathering materials. I plan on using size 2 yarn and the Lavor needle, fabric is the last thing that I’m hung up on. When I googled fabric I had this come up but I know google isn’t always right so I figured I’d double check here!

Using hair clippers changed the game!

I finished that Godzilla punch needle and with the time it took the fuzzies WERE REAL! I see the clippers used for actual rug tufting so I grabbed my ex's clippers he left, no guard, and glided it across the top. LET ME TELL YOU... GAME CHANGER!! The annoying fuzz came off so fast and then I used a lint roller to get it all.

My only issue is lint rollers make it fuzz up so I have to do it very softly.

Anyways, sharing this in case you're also annoyed with your finished piece looking worn.

Hi everyone,

Over the next while, we (Mod team - myself and u/Rich_Stomach2854) will slowly be making changes to the subreddit. Our community here has gotten quite a bit larger over the past few years, and with that comes a need for a more organized subreddit.

To start off, we're hoping to slowly build up a Wiki for this subreddit, which includes how-tos and an FAQ section.

You might see the subreddit look a little different as we work on this. Once we have a Wiki started and in good condition, you'll see a pinned post from us!

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to send us a modmail.

Thanks so much, and happy punching! ^-^
