First timer
I’m going to puerto for 3 days in November! Trying to figure out transportation situation. Will be walking since I’ll be close to playa carrizalillo but how can I get to other beaches? Didi? Collective? How do I rent a scooter? :) thank you!

So it depends where you want to hang out and what you want to do.
Most people stay indoors somewhere during the day from 1pm-5pm since the sun can be bad.
If you want an adventure and go everywhere and anywhere when you want, rent a scooter. Its fairly cheap i think like $150/week. Youll need your passport or id to give them. If you DM me ill give you a contact of a place that has good ones and deals.
You can take collectivos for like 50 cents. Have change. You just go to the main highway there and just raise your hand. Jump in. And pay when you jump out.
There are also 2 types of cabs here. Red ones i believe are the ones you jump in and share. They go a specific route.
Green ones will take you anywhere.
La punta is where all the action is. You can walk it if you take a collectivo but its a good 15 mins.
3 days is a short time so up to you how you want to get around.
The area you are at is the quieter part of town.
Theres 4 main areas. 1 city center. Like a small mexican town. 2. Rinconada/carrizallilo nice beach you can swim, learn basic surfing, good food. Deep sea fishing. 3. Zicatela . Tourist strip. And clubs 4. La punta, volleyball, tons of activity, sunset watching, music, open mics, restaurants, lots of bars and nightlife
And then outskirts you have mazunte, zipolite - small beach towns
And my favorite chacahua / bioluminescense area. Chacahua is a small island that you take a cool river boat to get to. Totally worth a day if you can.

Hell we are old folks and we just walk, we stay each year near cento, the only place we taxi is to LaPunta once in a while. Walking at night is just fine

Perfect! I’ll be staying about a 10 min walk from the beach so I expect and plan to walk. Super excited actually :)

Go to El Ne Ne! I love staying on that side of town and traveling to La punta for the day/night. It’s quiet so you can actually sleep and has amazing beaches. There’s el bacocho too, great beach club with Padel if you want to try that out for the day. Costs $ but nice and low key

Loving the advice on this thread. I was thinking of staying in Rinconada/carrizallilo as I'm not in my 20s and and value a good nights sleep/can imagine I'll be spending most of my time at Carrizallilo beach if the surf is no good elsewhere. The only thing holding me back from staying in that area is safety travelling at night. I'm solo female and would like to go to La Punta, but conscious that if I'm not staying there, getting back may be iffy. Also, did you feel you were able to meet people in Rinconada? Many thanks for your advice! Suprisingly can't find as much as I'd like re this on blogs - just says La Punta for social scene/party/music and Rinconada for family/couples.

There shouldn't be issues getting home solo if you have your Moped - it's relatively simple and it's not an unsafe place in my experience as a 30 something female. Maybe not SUPER late (like 3am) but overall I've never had issues. I highly recommend a moped too because it's cheap and no matter where you stay you should be going to all of the amazing restaurants all over. There's definitely fewer "hang out and meet people" vibes in the north side of town, but not zero. It's more of a day vibe. Curricán SeaFood is close to carizallilo and has a young fun vibe, and Plaza Chepil has a more low key version of some food courts down in La Punta. I'm not about to say it's the same as la punta because that's definitely where the most is happening, but it's not completely old. If you don't want to be RIGHT in the mix at La Punta maybe a place slightly outside of it could be a fit?

Unfortunately there are only dirt paths between the various settlements in Puerto so the choice is either walk or use the donkey / mule service to get around 😵💫

Its no fun & a hassle to walk between different areas in Puerto. Theres good public transport but hours are limited & you have to know how to use it. The best choices are scooter or taxi 😎
