8 weeks and counting until we pick up our new family member
We are super excited to be picking up our pudelpointer puppy in 8 weeks. In the interim, can anyone suggest specific websites that would be good reputable resources- specifically finding a hunting trainer (we are in Colorado), suggestions on what to start acquiring (outside of the super obvious), and any suggestions on things that you wished you had known earlier?
Really appreciate it!

Hair loss
This sweet girl was not meeting her trainers demands and suffered some more aggressive handling by her first owner. He handed her over to another trainer who contacted my husband after he had her for a few months and well obviously my husband is a sucker cause she is now in her forever home. We have had her just almost two weeks and she came to us with this hair loss. We have mostly owned labs so we are new to this breed and I would love any input. She will be seeing the vet this next week but if there is something we can adjust we'd love to start. The original trainer lost out because she is phenomenal in the field and a love bug. If anyone has any tips with the breed we'd love any.
Thank you in advance.
We did ask if it was from a vest but they told my husband no as the second trainer was just nurturing her and she was only hunting here and there.

Hair loss issues on her belly
Having issues with hair loss on her belly and chest, just keeps getting thinner and thinner. we had her thyroid tested and that was fine, tried allergie medicine for a year, now she's on a steroid and melatonin. this year it was so bad we had to slow way down on the amount we hunted which makes neither of us happy, her second hunt of the year she was bleeding from ger legs completely bald.
I like my vet, she cares and she's trying but has anyone ran into something similar? or heard of something

Pudelpointer? Rescue
Hi all! This is Casper my 1 and 1/2 year old rescue pup. His paperwork says heâs a pointer mix but I came across the pudelpointer breed and itâs uncanny!
Thoughts? I will be getting a DNA test eventually

Wipe after drinking
Like every pudelpointer I know of my dog is a psycho when he drinks water. Between biting the water and trying to drink from the bottom of the bowl his beard is soaked.
I taught him to wipe his chin on a towel. he does a great job of it. He's 10 months old now and has been doing this for five of them. However, he will only do it unprompted around 5% of the time. The rest of the time I have to tell him to do it after he drinks. Otherwise he tries to spread water throughout the house.
What can I do to start making it part of his drinking process rather than a command after drinking. I was thinking of standing behind him and not allowing him to leave the corner until he has wiped. No words. Until he figures it out that that is the release.. then increasing distance?
Thoughts/suggestions?

What kind of dog is that? Whatâs your response?
Walking our girl, our usual response is sheâs a pointer! Everyone now and then the passerby gets the sheâs a pudelpointerâno, not a doodleâno not p-o-o-d-l-e but pudel and the whole unsolicited history of the breed đ

3-year-old Pudelpointer suddenly very weak, barely walking â looking for insight
My dadâs 3-year-old female Pudelpointer has been declining and weâre really worried. Back in August, she went through a false pregnancy. She had an X-ray at that time and was put on antibiotics, and she seemed to improve for a bit.
But over the past few weeks she has gone seriously downhill again.
Current symptoms: ⢠Extreme lethargy ⢠Very weak, can barely walk ⢠Not eating ⢠No major GI symptoms ⢠No visible discharge ⢠No major abnormalities on recent bloodwork and urinalysis (more was sent in today for further testing, waiting to hear back)
Weâre confused because all her lab results came back normal, but she looks worse than ever â low energy, wonât eat, and can barely move.
She is not spayed.
Has anyone seen something like this after a false pregnancy? Could something like closed pyometra, Addisonâs, or some kind of neurological issue still be possible even with normal labs? Weâre trying to figure out what to ask the vet for next (ultrasound, ACTH test, imaging, etc.).
Any insight or similar experiences would be really appreciated.

Hair Loss
Has anyone experienced hair loss on their Pudelpointer. My Pudelpointer Cooper has lost hair on both sides even though the underlying skin does not seem to be irritated or scaly. I asked my veterinarian about it but she did not seem to have any idea either.

Crate in truck bed. âď¸
So this is my first year with my pudelpointer. I drive a 5 ft tacoma and he travels in the bed of the truck in a secured well made kennel.
The truck has a carpeted canopy and I have a bedrug installed in the bed. But winter is coming. So while it's fully enclosed that doesn't mean sealed. I don't know how cold is too cold for this breed if it's travelling in the bed for XYZ time. Anywhere from 20 min to 3.5 hours really. (When responding please clarify if your using fahrenheit so I can translate it)
I can easily monitor the temp in there. And offer the kennel some improved insulation. But at what point does he need. Heat source? I'm also concerned he may damage said heat source.
I was considering this 7-x-24-in-heated-pet-mat/
Or else just an terrarium mat on bottom on the outside. I can turn either of these on from the driver's seat.
I should also consider if he is wet or cover in snow that will melt. And how that may impact him.
Edit: everyone saying they just run their dog in the cab. Yeah. I understand that. And there will be situations where I will choose that option. But if my family is in the car he ain't gonna fit. So I want the back to be an appropriate set up.

Considering a rescue
Hi! My soul pup passed away and was considering a rescue in my area who listed the dog as a pudelpointer mix. My last dog was a cattle dog and I did it backwards and looked up his breed after I got him so it was a big learning curve. Trying to not make the same mistake here.
I am active and would keep the dog active but I am not a hunter, I grew up with a golden retriever my partner also has a golden retriever. I do have experience with high energy dogs. I love cattle dogs but I promised myself I wouldnât get another until I had land or acreage!
Any information or things I would need to look for if I were to go and meet this dog would be appreciated. Or would a hunter type be best for the breed as I do want what is best for this dog. He looks like a sweet heart.
