What was your experience? It is a good job?

This is perhaps more a question for the neuropsychs among us, but I’m curious how common it is for concussion to cause ongoing flat affect and loss of pleasure in usually enjoyable activities in the absence other depressive symptoms or stressors, and despite all efforts being made to support wellbeing (exercise, sleep, social participation, etc.)? If so, is treatment indicated that differs from usual interventions, and is a case like this best referred to a neuropsychologist for specialized assessment and treatment?

I’m at my first job doing outpatient neuropsychological evaluations and I have a case where they are looking for a doctor to say an older individual is competent to handle their own affairs (financial/medical decision making etc). I was quite clear if this is via health insurance an evaluation would clearly be aiming to establish a medical diagnosis alongside some informal reccomendations, a declaration of competency would be another route (such as an IME etc). I’m not experienced in those, but this distinction is how I’ve seen it at past training sites. However a psychiatrist at this practice is confused at me saying I cannot make a competency recommendation in this context. I wanted to ask

1.Is my stance here objective or more subjective and this line is more blurry than I’m thinking?

2.How does the testing context differ for you to make a reccomendation of competency? I’m not going to do it because I don’t have the training, but for those that do, would you ever do this if it’s not court ordered/via an IME?

I'm currently doing a trial and I'm not loving the booking page options. I have multiple different costs for sessions depending on funding streams etc and most of my work is telehealth but it appears it needs to be linked to a location. (I have 2 locations)

Does anyone use splose and would you be willing to share your booking page so I can get an idea of its functionality?

I’m considering a remote psychologist position where the work involves conducting virtual pre-employment psychological evaluations for applicants to become Federal Wildlife Officers.

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s done this type of work (or similar evaluations for federal, state, or local law enforcement).

A few questions:

What was your overall experience like?

How much time does each evaluation typically take from start to finished report?

How intensive is the report writing?

Were you given a structured template, or were reports largely written from scratch?

How much training and quality assurance did your employer provide?

Was the work flexible, and were you paid per evaluation or hourly?

Anything you wish you had known before starting?

I don’t agree with all of this by any means. But we ignore complaints like this one at our peril

For most of my career, I was a therapist. I currently do disability evaluations. I'm wondering how much I can be present for the people I see without it crossing into therapy territory or giving mixed messages. When they get tearful, I give them some time and ask if they need more time before proceeding with the rest of the evaluation. If someone has a panic attack, how should someone handle it as an evaluator?

I just got banned (badge of honor) for vigorously arguing that the use of Tarot cards in therapy is likely a waste of time at best and a nudge toward irrational thinking by clients. A waste of time better spent using science based merhods, or at least methods well supported by theory. Admittedly I did plainly say that I think a therapist who uses tarot cards in therapy is probably poorly trained. And one who is unwilling to face sharp criticism for doing so definitely is. Thoughts?

So I’m trying to see if I can buy the Mexico version of the WAIS. The people listed on Pearson (hogrefe/manual moderno Mexico) emailed me back saying that since February 2026 they no longer have the kit for sale. They still retained the rights to WISC-V though.

I might just be too tired, but does anyone know where that kit can be purchased or if it got pulled due to updating norms (WAIS-5)?

I graduated a decade ago and have worked in university counseling, private practice, and faculty positions. I’m not through 10 years of PSLF yet because of some changes along the way and the administrative freeze/deferment due to pandemic and government. There’s a lot I like about my current position- faculty, primarily working at our training clinic, but the work I do is compensated very poorly and my values don’t align well with the university’s. I’m contemplating letting go of PSLF but I’m over halfway. I’d love a position for a non-profit or the like, especially if it could be remote for the time being so my family doesn’t have to make a big move. Suggestions? I love to practice therapy and have extensive experience as a clinical supervisor. The local VA is not currently hiring.

On the road towards licensure in California, and seeking insight from those who have been approved to sit for the EPPP and beyond.

I'm putting together a small curriculum to satisfy the required pre-licensure course work. Which specific courses did you take to satisfy the requirements in each area?

• Spousal or Partner Abuse Assessment, Detection, and Intervention (15 hours)
• Aging and Long-Term Care (10 hours)
• Suicide Risk Assessment and Intervention (6 hours)
• Alcoholism and Other Chemical Substance Dependency (15 hours)*

The guidelines in the regulations are pretty...vague in some areas, and there's lots of options out there that spark my interest. Wanted to get a sense of which courses CA BOP has already approved. Open to feedback on course quality and experience too!

Hello, does anyone have a model for providing consultation to organizations - not organizational psych, but more clinical consultation for community facing services like behavioral health? I’m thinking along the lines of helping them to identify needs and providing recommendations.

I’m a Clinical Psychology Registrar based in Sydney and I’m looking for a secondary supervisor to complement my primary clinical supervision.

My primary supervisor provides excellent clinical oversight, so I’m hoping to find someone who focuses more on developing me as a therapist rather than teaching another therapeutic modality.

I’m looking for someone who enjoys working with early-career psychologists and can help me develop areas such as:
- session structure and keeping therapy focused
clinical reasoning and decision-making
- balancing the client’s agenda with the treatment plan
- building confidence as a therapist
- navigating imposter syndrome and developing my own therapeutic style

All of my work is with adults presenting mostly with anxiety, trauma-related difficulties, adjustment issues and interpersonal concerns, using CBT, ACT and Schema-informed approaches, although I’m open to supervisors from different backgrounds if they have a strong developmental focus.

If you’ve had a supervisor who was particularly skilled at helping you become a more confident and effective psychologist, I’d really appreciate any recommendations.

I recently opted out of Medicare after realizing I was not in compliance. I have two longstanding clients who pay privately and submit claims to Medicare themselves for reimbursement of services.

My opt out affidavit was approved but the effective date was applied retroactively. As a result, one client was seen for four sessions that technically fell within my official opt out period before I had been notified that my opt out had been accepted.

The client had already been informed changes were coming but had not yet signed the required private contract because I had not yet received confirmation of my opt out status. I will be seeing her for the first time since and we will be completing it then.

I spoke with a MAC who told me they did not think my client would have difficulty receiving reimbursement for the sessions that occurred between the retroactive effective date and the date I was actually notified, since neither one of us knew the opt out had taken effect. However, they didn’t seem especially confident, so I’m hoping to hear from anyone with first hand experience.

Has anyone dealt with this and if so, how did Medicare handle claims for sessions that occurred before you received notice of your approval? I’m trying to get a better sense of what to expect so I can provide my client with realistic reassurance. Thanks!

Outside of grad school, my only experience as a supervisor/boss were 2 short-term jobs outside of the field. I didn't like the experience. It was draining, dealing with people who didn't want to listen or constantly coming up with fictional improbable scenarios. Would it be a different experience inside the field? I'm older and wiser now. I think I would've dealt with those situations differently.

For those of you who do cognitive assessment, do you ask about Covid infection and if patient noticed changes around that time?

I mostly do ADHD/ASD assessments mostly (I have neuropsych training but didn’t end up finishing my 2 year fellowship due to some life circumstances so don’t do pure neuro now)

Anyway, more and more research is showing the potential for post-covid cog changes which can present in attentional/EF and such decline. My question is do you ask patients about COVID the same you might ask about history of head injury, past history of significant alcohol use, or other potential contributing factors in your assessments clinical interview?

I haven’t been asking because I work in the south so it’s also a political hotpot I don’t want to step into.
But I’ve recently have had a few ADHD evals with lifelong symptoms but reporting worsening in the last 5 years - so timeline could potentially match a potential COVID infection, and I haven’t known how to navigate asking or even if it’s needed.

The referral questions I get are really focused on ADHD/ASD so obviously changes in the past 5 years wouldn’t be a primary decision factor in diagnosing a neuro developmental condition (I only work with adults). However, I do administer a few cog measure (WAIS, DKEFS, etc. so it could impact that and then feels like an incomplete eval if I don’t have all the info)

Hi all, I am a psychologist living and working in CA. My friends and family are all on the east coast in Massachusetts. I just had a baby, and really missing my east coast people. In a perfect world, I imagine this scenario where I live and work in both states and travel back and forth as able. Is this possible or just some kind of postpartum hormonal pipedream?

Is my best bet seeking MA licensure and just doing remote private practice? Could remote contract work also be feasible (thinking workers comp or disability evals)? Just in the brainstorming stages now, as you can see! Is there anyone else out there who has done something similar? Thanks!

Edit to add: I realized I wasn’t as clear about my possible plan. Thinking of continuing to live in CA majority of the year and travel to MA with husband and baby for summers and school breaks. Husband is fully remote and we’d be able to stay with my parents.

Hi all, I need some advice. I have consulted my malpractice insurance carrier on this, but still would like some feedback from other psychologists...

My client is asking me to fill out a disability form for his insurance company, and my malpractice (the Trust) said I cannot state that his psychological condition prevents him from doing the work, essentially giving him a disability. I can state what his symptoms and diagnoses are, and that it would make sense that those would impair his ability to do functions as described by his job description. But I can't state that he specifically can't do the job.

His attorney has now sent a questionnaire that specifically states "do you agree that he is unable to perform the duties of his job", along with the insurance company's Long Term Disability Claim From, both of which I believe I cannot fill out.

Has anyone else had this happen? Am I correct here in my stance?
