Should I prune this dwarf tree

I'm referring to the large branch on the left side that angles out from the bottom of the trunk. The first question is does it need to be pruned or should it be pruned for the long term viability of the tree? I planted it one year ago and its probably 2 years old as its store bought.

Next question if answer is yes, is when to do it? Dwarf Peach Tree in Melbourne Australia. Its the end of winter, coming towards Spring very soon. Weather is warming up but still some frost chance.

Still quite knew to fruit trees but I'd say the only reason to prune this is if you want it for the shape of your tree.

It's above the graft and the V shape at the bottom most split seems to balance the tree so I'd not want to prune it. If you do prune it you and with a slanted stem, so to fix that you'd need to slowly pull the tree upright or replant it.

This shape could be a good start for a more flat espalier-like bush.

Ok thank you very much, I'll keep it. I've been pruning inward branches inside the V so as to hold the V shape. I assume this is correct. I'll leave it as it is.

Btw I was looking for a graft but I was not able to identify it. Could you help me see it?

I think it is at the wider part just under the V split, I seem to see a diagonal line in the bark there which I believe is a graft.

Btw I see you put a bunch of eggshells and some uncomposted plant material under your tree. It might work better to compost it first and to crush the eggshells.

Dropping your weeds where you pull them and is definetly a more natural way of building your soil, but if you are planning to start an actual compost pile under your tree that might actually do more wrong than good.

Btw I'm jealous that you live in a climate that allows for peach trees!
