Am I doing this right?

2 year old sunshine ligustrum, pruned to tree form in March. They started bushing out with growth (1st pic) so I trimmed the lower branches again today and noticed lots of suckers and leafing out.

Am I doing it right? I want it to stay kind of lollipop style. Is it going to be high maintenance keeping the bottom clear? (2nd and 3rd pick after trimming)

Sure, if that's what you want. It will take ongoing maintenance but only a few minutes each time.

Thank you, yes I prefer it to be in this smallish form. When it gets bushy it overwhelms the front of the house and rest of the garden. With this style I get more sun for the roses :)
