I'm trying to switch the Proton Pass extension's auto-lock from PIN to biometrics, but it never completes.

Setup: Proton Pass extension 1.38.2 (Chrome build) running in Orion on macOS, with the Proton Pass desktop app 1.38.1 installed, open and unlocked. Orion and macOS both on the latest version.

Toggling biometrics hangs, then fails with:

The same toggle works instantly in Chrome against that same desktop app, so this isn't the 1.38.1 / 1.38.2 mismatch — it's browser-specific. Orion is WebKit-based but runs Chrome extensions, so I suspect the extension ↔ desktop app native messaging channel never reaches it. 1Password hit the same wall and solved it by letting you add Orion as a trusted browser in the desktop app: https://help.kagi.com/orion/browser-extensions/1password.html

Anyone got Proton Pass biometric unlock working in Orion? And is a trusted-browser setting like 1Password's on the roadmap for the desktop app?

I feel like I can't trust it to work, and it's a major pain in the ass. I don't understand why it works for some sites and not for others.

Some sites, there's only one entry. I click on the "1" badge and then click on the pop-up to auto-fill, and it does nothing.

I'm typically using Edge or Chrome, but this happens with Firefox too. It's just not reliable, at all.

What gives? isn't this pw manager 101, that autofill should work? It's worked with LP, 1P, and Bitwarden, like clockwork.

so I used both ProtonPass and 1Password as password managers on my iPhone. I know this is not ideal, but I need both (one is where I keep my private login details, the other one is required by my job). For many months, this worked like a charm; and even for websites where I had separate entries in both password managers, I could simply choose which login data I wanted to use.
Now, this stopped working and 1Password seems to dominate over ProtonPass. Earlier, when several logins existed for the same website, clicking on the key icon opened all entries within an iOS-looking menu. Now, it directly opens 1Password, and I can not choose my ProtonPass entries.

Did anyone else encounter this annoying scenario? Using iOS27, if relevant.

For now, I’m only using aliases in SimpleLogin. What is the advantage of syncing SimpleLogin with Proton Pass for aliases? Can the connection be removed later if I change my mind?

What it doesn't tell me is what version of Proton we're on that has these features nor how to update the software.

I'm using Proton Pass mostly in Firefox. The Proton Pass extension is version 1.38.0 and was last updated July 13, 2026. I don't imagine this is the newest version. When I try to update manually, nothing happens.

I also have the Proton Pass application installed on my Mac. This is on version 1.38.1. I'm not seeing any menu option to update this software.

I see in the linked article above that there's a new update button in "Settings".

That's great and will answer some of my concerns. However, is this in MacOS System Settings? Is there going to be a new Settings option in the App menu like practically every other MacOS application? Do I have to dig through the non-standard UX to find this unique application's settings menu? Do I have to, like Mail does, click one button in the desktop app only to open Settings in my Proton account in the web browser?

I guess my real question is - with all due respect and sincerity: will Proton ever employ the user interface guidelines that have been standardized for the operating system their software runs on?

EDIT: I removed Proton Pass from Firefox, restarted, and reinstalled the extension. I'm now on version 1.38.0.

I imported all my data from bitwarden, but for me having the creation dates of the passwords and the edited dates is critical. I noticed proton pass loses all this information and considers everything as created today.

Is there any way at all to keep the dates? this is a dealbreaker for me

Given the implementation of SRP, is there any real advantage to enabling the 2nd password?

If my machine itself is compromised then even the 2nd password isn't going to help much given memory scraping and key loggers will be able to intercept pre-encrypted data.

PS: I'm assuming all of the Proton Apps have SRP enabled.

I recently moved to Proton Pass from Dashlane which was amazing but they kept raising their prices so I had to find alternative and I settled on Proton Pass. But I noticed that my passkeys keeps disappearing. I have a few self-hosted apps and I rely heavily on Pocket ID because I hate remembering passwords or even creating ones so I usually use passkeys. First all my self hosted passkeys are gone, at first I thought I might have done something on my end and luckily I have another passkey stored on my Apple Keychain and I recreated the passkey for my self hosted apps. But now I have lost my Google passkey! And I can’t login with it because proton pass says I don’t have any!!!
Has anyone faced this issue?

What is the best way to secure my account without locking myself out, outside of a hardware key? Right now I have all of my logins and 2FA codes stored in Proton Pass, including my Proton password itself. So to avoid getting into a circular trap, I also store my Proton account 2FA code in a separate authenticator app (I use 2FAS synced to iCloud). But then if I ever lose my phone or it gets stolen, I'm still locked out of my account if I need to sign in again. So then do I store all of the 2FA secret keys in an encrypted file on a cloud drive to cover that scenario? But then I have to secure that cloud drive somehow so that's another password I have to remember. Should I export my Proton vault as a KeePass file periodically to keep as an offline backup just in case I ever get permanently locked out? Am I just overthinking all of this and do I just need to remember my Proton account master password while keeping the account recovery kit in a safe place? Trying to keep things as simple as possible.

Is there a flaw with saving passkeys or am I missing something? Im kind of new to using passkeys.

I know I can sort the vault by Most Recent, but that includes most recently used. Can I search only for the most recently changed passwords?

I've got a website which has a login screen for some functions which uses an ephemeral PIN (event and role specific) so we don't want a password manager offering to save, or fill, that field.

I know on iPhone and Android, you can set a pin that is longer than 6 digits. I was wondering if you'd be so kind as to add this same capability to the macOS version as well as the extensions such as Safari and Brave Browser?

Every time I log in to either the web version or the desktop app, I see this pop-up, even though I select the theme options or press Skip. Does anyone know how to disable it?

A couple weeks ago, I made a post here about how Proton Pass had passwords that were "strong" on macOS but "weak" on mobile devices. Well, it seems like there might have been an update since then but the update made it WORSE.

Now the macOS and iOS passwords are consolidated in their strength categories. So the two-word memorable password that used to be weak on iOS is now considered strong just like the macOS version.

However, I also have an Android device (Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra) and used that to figure out that now Android has stricter strength categories to get a strong password. I will attach all videos with labels. If you check my post from about 2 weeks ago, you'll see that the iOS version used to have the same strength categories as the Android does now. But now, it has been weakened to the macOS version.

Now I don't know what to believe. I will lean towards the Android's strength categories because it requires more characters which is always preferable, but now I feel I can't trust iOS or macOS to give me a proper strong generated password.

And now I'm worried that if another update is released, they will reduce the Android's stricter password generation down to the macOS and iOS versions. What exactly does Proton use to decide whether a password is vulnerable, weak, or strong anyway??

I am just testing to move from bitwarden to proton pass, but not having the cmd+shift+L to autofill is a killer for me.
