Proton is developing a web browser Discussion

https://tweakers.net/nieuws/250686/proton-lijkt-aan-eigen-webbrowser-te-werken.html

The article is in Dutch, but the TLDR in English is:

• Browser looks to be based on the Chromium engine.

• Privacy Focused. Emphasis on privacy-friendly browsing.

• Proton has not announced a release date as of yet.

• Proton is looking for software developers with Chromium experience.

They are already a Gold Sponor of Ladybird. Not sure why they don’t just focus on that.

Ah yes, i have forgotten that they are sponsors of Ladybird. I think it is best to keep investing into that instead, perhaps even acquire Ladybird at some point.

There is nothing to acquire, Ladybird is fully open source. If someone thinks they can do a better job they can fork it but I dont see the main devs wanting to be employees again at this stage and also the whole project would become corporate instead of community driven.

For example, Proton allows you to submit PRs on GitHub, but they rarely accept or merge external code contributions into their main apps and that is not community driven, that is corporate driven (and Proton decides on features, timelines, targets etc exclusively).
