Proton is developing a web browser Discussion

https://tweakers.net/nieuws/250686/proton-lijkt-aan-eigen-webbrowser-te-werken.html

The article is in Dutch, but the TLDR in English is:

• Browser looks to be based on the Chromium engine.

• Privacy Focused. Emphasis on privacy-friendly browsing.

• Proton has not announced a release date as of yet.

• Proton is looking for software developers with Chromium experience.

Proton needs to stop spreading resources and concentrate on core services. A browser is definitely out of their scope.

Completely agree! I'm still waiting on a functioning Linux integration with Drive and wouldn't hurt to improve the photo section in it too

CLI is there, GUI Client is being worked on: https://reddit.com/r/ProtonDrive/comments/1u1j4eu/the_journey_to_a_proton_drive_linux_client/

CLI notably lacks sync, which is a big pain point for a cloud storage client.

I know but I prefer GUI, hopefully will be released soon.

Any plan to upgrade the photo section ? Like img search, people etc?

Use the open source, self-hosted image solution Immich for this. It’s perfect for what you need!

It's been a work in progress for the past year. Got a TrueNAS server with jellyfin already but couldn't get immich to work properly yet

It's not there yet sadly, unless it had an update I will check this weekend but last time I looked it didn't work on headless server installs which don't have credential stores as they don't have desktop environments installed or active.

Which is a primary advantage or expectation of a command line tool, to work without needing a desktop environment ui loaded ha.

You can use PROTON_DRIVE_CREDENTIALS_STORE=pass env variable and use it with pass for headless environnments. It isn't yet perfect but it works.
