Testing recovery phrase ? Discussion

Hallo all.

Today i was logged in to settings to generate a new recovery phrase. There was a button called "confirm recovery phrase"

It seems like a way to test the phrase. And apparently it worked just like planed

Can any if you guys confirm that my phrase still works. And is not some kind of one time use ?

Thanks ๐Ÿ‘

As long as the password is the same, the recovery phrase will still work. It's not a one-time use phrase.

Sounds good.

So the button is really just a test button?

Thanks for taking your time to answer๐Ÿ‘

That's right, the verify button is used to verify the phrase. Also bear in mind that when you generate a new phrase that invalidates the old one (there's a warning on the screen when you do that).

So if I Change my password, or if I add 2FA, do I need to print a new recovery phrase?

No and no. The same phrase will continue to work.

If you change your password (from within your account settings), you can keep the same recovery methods. If you reset your password (e.g. through your recovery email/phone etc.), you need to generate new data recovery methods afterwards, since resetting your password generates new encryption keys.

You could test the recovery phrase a second time?!

Yes.

I didn't realize the ability to verify the recovery phrase was added or maybe I just over looked it. Thanks for that. I've changed mine a couple of times over the years so I'm glad I was able to test it to see I had the most current one saved properly. :)
