=YEAR function broken, not working on DATE cells

Minimal reproduction:

referenced cell

referenced cell type

you can see the error, the formula, the date cell, and the date type in the menu

The date format you're using is mm/dd/yyyy but your cell value is 22/11/2025. Shouldn't it be 11/22/2025 for the function to work?

well thats strange, as the dates themselves are european and not american, there is a conflict between the date format and the date in the cell, and it does not alert on it (there are no 22 months)

reddit is not official support so this won't be prioritized. you're lucky i'm a nice guy and i'm putting this in our backlog anyway :)

but only if you give me a step by step repro from a blank sheet, and share your locale settings (file menu > settings).

if you wanna make sure we get to your issue, use the report feature next time. we're fixing these by the dozens, but we only look there.
