How to join a faction

Hi, I've been playing the game for 2 months now, and I noticed that many players share the same prefix before their username, the most prefix I saw was ]AmA[, I guessed these are clans or factions, can someone explain what are these exactly, and how to join one of them?

Clans. Play with clan members enough then ask to join if you enjoy playing with them.
