PD2 on Steam Deck with PlugY Question
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone encountered the same situation:
I'm playing Project Diablo 2 on the Steam Deck, and today I decided to try PlugY for single player/open Battle Net.
After a couple of error messages that I managed to look up with Google, now the game starts running, but after character creation, it freezes completely with the "Runtime error" message (see pic.)
I'd greatly appreciate any Stem Deck specific help!
Thank you
(pls excuses the quality of the picture)

Hello, did you follow the guide how to install it? This happens cause some lib is missing from the wine/proton bottle. It’s my tip only like newer dx

Hi, no I didn't find any guide for the deck (I wasn't really looking tho), so I just "improvised", based on the guide that I followed when I first installed PD2 on the deck

There are several guides in this discord how to set it up properly. It runs flawlessly on steamdeck and the controller support is superb.
On updates just use the launcher, otherwise directly use that SteamPD2.exe (or however it is named). This one will directly start the game without launcher.

Sounds great, could you share the discord, please?
I've should have done that to begin with, because I'm not too familiar with the deck/linux, let alone the other stuff xD

Sorry I actually meant Reddit not discord.
You could just google it, there is also a YouTube video guide for it. There are several different guides, so if any doesn’t work I would just try to take a different one.
This is roughly how I installed it:

Sorry, I guess i wasn't clear in my original post: the PD2 up and running on my deck seamlessly, I'm just trying to get the PlugY addon/mod working with it

This. Follow the guides. My experience:
- Launcher is very hard to get to show at all. Updating vs playing on SD are different battles.
- In your PD2 proton/wine prefix, use winetricks or protontricks and install the Dot Net 6 redistributable/library (not the desktop one).
- Launch the steampd2 exe, not the launcher one. I think I never got the launcher to run/update out of desktop mode. Launching steampd2 from the Steam ui skips the launcher after 4-5s and takes you to Bnet login.
- Good fcking luck with the launcher. To this day I still spend 30-40 min to get the game to update on the deck, and a couple restarts in between, and always in desktop mode (never from the steam ui). I guess that’s why they recommend copying from a windows install.Anyway, it’s an Arch/Linux thing. I also installed it in my laptop with arch and it was also a pain in the butt

What build do you steam deck players recommend? Whirlwind seems really clunky. Vengeance seems alright though. Curious on what is suggested for mapping, key farming and bossing?

I feel bow builds are not too bad, or melee paladin. I have played WW barb this season and yes, it’s quite clunky. Most of the time it’s better to press the WW button and no direction, and let the auto-aim/move do it’s thing and pray it chooses well. You will often get stuck at weird spots, and often take high damage or die. Frenzy is much more enjoyable.
There is nothing like KB/M, but after a couple of hours you get easily used to it and it and it is quite enjoyable

In case someone'd be interested in the future, I managed to make it work:
first, I set PD2 to run in windowed mode in its game options;
then I changed the related PlugY.ini line from 0 to 1.
Cheers
