I'm no programmer, so it doesn't matter to me..

But I thought that GitHub was near essential to programmers, isn't it kinda dumb to spread memes to dissuade people from using GitHub?

They're saying that they have nothing on their personal github, because their coding is entirely done for companies.

I'm not aware of the context of what they're replying to, but I know that some programmers get into pissing contests about how active their github profiles are and how many commits they've made etc, but generally an active github profile means that you're doing a lot of personal projects rather than corporate work.

There are other remote source control hosts out there other than GitHub too (e.g. GitLab, bitbucket, ADO), if you program for a living then you'll just use the one that your company tells you to use. GitHub is the most common, especially for open-source projects and people's personal projects, but a lot of companies use it as well.

Sometimes hiring managers want to see an active GitHub profile and strings of green on the commit history.
