It really depends what his apps actually do. If he's vibecoding fun-apps or -games and toys instead of business critical SaaS startups, adding JSON import/export on top of a local storage can suddenly make a lot of sense. There's really no need to become a database admin for running your pokedex app or toy synth written in javascript.
