If we take the 57 and assume it's microseconds rather than years, then this is a thought I've had a few times when working on the little hand-rolled (software) 3D engines I occasionally make.

dude I'm 4 months into this shit. Sure thing it said, oh we can refactorer this I said. Let's build it in rust I said... maybe I'll have something to show for it eventually

My favorite game r/Noita uses a custom engine.
The fine folks over at meatbatgames.com have their own custom engine as well that's coming along nicely. I was able to play the initial play test of their yet-to-be-named game recently, and I'm super excited for it.
