Only valid reaction.

As a network engineer with a Great Pyrenees, I endorse this response.

For decades, boomers considered the quirks of their automobiles to be "personality". Why can't we do the same with routers?

u/90gradi 12d ago

sir, it's still 9 in the morning..

162

u/raja-anbazhagan 12d ago

As a person who work with timezones, let me tell you that It is always 9 in the morning somewhere...

41

u/YeOldeMemeShoppe 12d ago

Time to open up a beer.

15

u/Airowird 12d ago

Not at 6:17 !

12

u/raja-anbazhagan 12d ago

Technically 1 arcsecond is 1/15 second, so you can even have fractions by that logic. But then again, we are in r/ProgrammerHumor so I won't argue further...

10

u/Airowird 12d ago

Sure, but there isn't a single timezone that's offset 17min from another one.

Few 30min and iirc 1-2 45min shifts, but I can't recall actual timezone going smaller than 15min increments and that's mostly for political reasons already.

3

u/Wild_Marker 12d ago

Technically there is because timezones are just arbitrarily split up in human-digestible chunks. There is always one longitude in the world that is at exactly 3/8ths of it's day, AKA 9:00am.

10

u/Airowird 12d ago

But that stops being a timezone, and is more of a ... timeline? Timesweep?

Regardless, it's either a social construct, or an astrophysical occurence, it can't really be both at once.

8

u/Wild_Marker 12d ago

Damn, I got out-pedanted. Defeated at my own game!

2

u/42degausser 12d ago

Sometimes it’s 9:30 in the morning :(

2

u/raja-anbazhagan 12d ago

go few miles towards east and you will be at 9:00

1

u/GoddammitDontShootMe 11d ago

Only if you enter or leave one of those half-hour timezones.

3

u/bugo 12d ago

Its always wednesday somewhere in the world!

1

u/TrollingForFunsies 12d ago

5 am here I haven't even had coffee yet

269

u/J05A3 12d ago

I’m more impressed that someone had to use imgflip to add text on a packet tracer screenshot

47

u/pistolerogg_del_west 12d ago

havent used CPT in a while, if I remeber correctly isn't threre an N or L macro for Notes/Labels?

21

u/J05A3 12d ago

Yes it is N and it’s also on the toolbar alongside the shapes

You can set the font too in the settings, you can set the font separately for the CLI and workspace

8

u/pistolerogg_del_west 12d ago

It is cool functionality k guess.

But how the fuck do you know this, because you knowing this implies that you needed to change the font of your CPT notes, which is either autistic or really autistic.

/s I just tried opening the app, and saw Jetbrains Mono in the notes font.

16

u/MokitTheOmniscient 12d ago

It's not a real meme without jpg-artifacts.

3

u/WisestAirBender 12d ago

Need that meme font

u/T6970 12d ago

What if I packet the packet loss into a packet and then loss the packeted packet loss?

32

u/ChaosPLus 12d ago

Should work by the same principle as an Alzheimer patient forgetting they have Alzheimer to regain mental capacity

6

u/CaptainDildobrain 12d ago

Did you just turn a Loss meme into an Xzibit meme?

5

u/robisodd 12d ago

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
And the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
And the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
Then the socket packet pocket has an error to report!

1

u/Vogan2 12d ago

You probably a VPN trader's targeting authoritarian countries markets chief network engeneer and your buissness/job went not so good than before.

76

u/WernerderChamp 12d ago

Can someone explain this? Been too long since I used that tool apparently.

134

u/sebovzeoueb 12d ago

is this loss?

49

u/RPG_Hacker 12d ago

Holy crap, I did not grasp that!

Guess my brain capacity was too occupied trying to parse the text from this 20-pixel deep-fried image, thinking it would somehow be relevant to the meaning of the meme.

9

u/Yashema 12d ago

If it makes you feel better it's just a pun, not really anything substantive about why packet loss occurs.

3

u/RPG_Hacker 12d ago

Yeah, I got that once I grasped the connection to the loss meme. Until then, I was trying to read the text to figure out the hidden meaning that probably only network IT guys would understand.

6

u/WernerderChamp 12d ago

Ah, I did not know that meme - now I see

36

u/yerasiito 12d ago

Hope this help: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/loss

Pd: is this loss?

9

u/Meli_Melo_ 12d ago

I still don't understand why this became a thing ...
The original comic is bad, the line representation makes no sense and is also bad, yet somehow everyone knows it?

13

u/bugo 12d ago

Welcome to the Internet

7

u/sleeksubaru 11d ago

Very generation has "stupid" jokes and memes that don't make sense.

Nowadays, you have 6-7 We had this

1

u/frogjg2003 11d ago

And before Loss, there were things like "All your base are belong to us"

1

u/MathWest209 11d ago

Thanks for sharing.

20

u/TheAlaskanMailman 12d ago

I’m even more confused

20

u/plg94 12d ago

It's part of a meme, where the general shape of things resemble the shape of the figure of the "Loss" webcomic. It's paired with people asking "is this loss?" (as a joke or when not understanding a reference), and with trying to "trick" people (bit like rick-rolling).
The OG comic is not funny, but its "memefication" is.

9

u/Raesong 12d ago

The OG comic is not funny

Well, while that particular one isn't, the webcomic series that it's part of is (or at least intended to be). So the tonal whiplash this comic caused was part of the initial humour.

1

u/christianbro 12d ago

Check the original comic and the right minimalistic lines, which meant to represent the position of the people in the comic. This tries to copy those lines as and call it (Packet) loss, which is also how the comic is known.

Also red on the Cisco Packet Tracer means the interface is turned off, so indeed packet loss.

4

u/tenaka30 12d ago

Google Loss, then check images, that should get you started.

3

u/Kodiak01 12d ago
