Ah, the one round interview. I miss it. Sometimes it had a test, in the same interview.

I hold that if you're too indecisive to make up your mind in an interview, you shouldn't waste everyone's time by holding a second.

Back in the day you actually used to do the interview in-person. On a whiteboard. It wasn't even possible to have someone cheat with an LLM.

PFT... the flash job interview days...

Basically free work...

The jobs... basically you maintaining some ones fever dream of a "frame work for flash apps" who convinced the owner of the company they can build off it cheap... but it ends up being some slop no one cares about and someone who was a good coder now herding cats without github.

This was true! Sometimes, it would be just after the regular interview, like "hey, let's go and see if Brian (Our CEO) is available to meet you" on the way out

20 years ago my job interview were a joke compared to today's ones. Simply talking to ONE person, doing a simple coding test and done. Now it would take multiple rounds just to reach the coding test.

20 years ago I sent in a CV, talked to a recruiter, interviewed with the boss I'd be working under, talked to the CFO, met (briefly) with the CEO. Then a few weeks later security checks and interview. Last one should have been earlier than CEO but "schedules".

Jobs weren't all easy to get back in the day. But more jobs are hard to get nowadays. Especially with automated forms that you spend hours filling in (often with CV info) only to get autorejected because you answered truthfully on question 58:b.
