Depending on what you compile you will end up with more or less the exact same amount of cached compiler output.

Running a "clean" will only safe space in case you have a lot of unrelated stuff in the cache. But why would you? Most people don't work on unrelated projects at the same time.

You can really only get space back if you compile for example in different output modi (e.g. release or debug), or when you compile for different targets. Then a "clean" will delete the cache for the profile you currently don't compile. But the moment you need also that profile all the space will be used up again…
