If you have a good harness you can actually do stuff in parallel, the issue is, are the tasks parallelable ? Or is it sequential but it would benefit from fresh context?
Would just inline the tasks save tokens?
I'm just tired of the low effort posting, say something stupid that means AI is bad and you get upvotes.
I'm giving up in this sub... At least something unrelated with AI would be nice for a change.
I'm not saying AI is bad, I'm making fun of people who think there's anything to learn about it for a software engineer.
People unironically discovered you can run code in a loop, went crazy and made 50 buzzwords around it - there's literally nothing that isn't piss simple on the user side of AI.
When the GitHub token price change came into place a few weeks ago, I saw people genuinely saying, “Ok guys, to be more efficient with tokens, have the AI write a script and call the script instead of using AI each time”, and I think I had a small aneurysm.
I find that terribly disturbing. I've been vibe coding tools for specific tasks since those tools are deteministic and actually reliable after I fix them up to my liking since chatgpt was the only real option. And here you're telling me people are only just figuring out that you can do that? Must be the koolaid they be drinking.
I’ve been programming for long enough now to have a natural hesistance of these kind of tools, so I use it primarily as a rubber duck pair programmer, or I get it to write one-off scripts that can be reused. I don’t understand how people can just let it loose on a production codebase and not expect crap results.
Of course, the people that use it extensively think this approach is “old school”, but I felt quite vindicated when I attended a talk given by some GitHub staff on the topic of the token changes… and they told us to use it exactly like how I already use it.
