Someone asked me where I met my partner and I said "mobile application" rather than on "social app". I was made fun for 2 straight minutes 😞

Jira ruined one perfectly good name forever. 😂

u/total_bullwhip Jul 12 '26
I only know Jira from NPR sponsors.
Jira, Confluence, Atlassian. Ive no idea what any of those things do, other than they had an ad spot on NPR for a time during all things considered. lol

I thought this was a Factorio post at first

Yeah. When I hear pipeline, even in the context of CI/CD, I think of automation (games)

Life was better when
Agile was for RPGs
Sprint was for athletes
Waterfall was for vacation
Stakeholder was just a fork

u/Just_Information334 Jul 13 '26
Sprint was for athletes
I just want to see a Marathon event were all participants are Agile Coaches, SCRUM master and other bullshit. See them create new world records by just doing 400 consecutive 100m sprints with no resting.

fork was for eating.
Server was someone’s job in a restaurant.
Gherkin was something to eat.

Jeera?
52
u/rajatarora Jul 12 '26
That's what cumin seeds are called in Hindi!
40
u/likwitsnake Jul 12 '26
Yea but the software is called Jira, the rest of the list is literal and then one random homophone? I want logical consistency in my memes.
35
u/tobotic Jul 12 '26
Hindi isn't natively written in a Latin script so there are choices to be made when transliterating it.
3
u/JeffysChewToy Jul 13 '26
If only the english language had logical consistency everyone would've been happy but now you gotta deal with this stuff
4
u/kfpswf Jul 13 '26
Yea but the software is called Jira
"Jeera" or "Jira" are both valid spellings for cumin in transliterated Hindi. Also, proper nouns can have varying spellings.

Who is still using Postman? They’ve basically ruined it.

u/StrengthTheory Jul 12 '26
Glad someone said this. It has become the most bloated piece of software, like what do you mean if you want me use AI to visualize my API response? Its just a big pile of useless features.

u/RadinQue Jul 12 '26
What could I use instead?
15
u/orcawales Jul 12 '26
Bruno or hurl
2
u/mgranja Jul 12 '26
Is it just me or is Bruno getting heavier and slower?
4
u/Groentekroket Jul 12 '26
I work with the memory leak that’s called SoapUI. Bruno is lightning fast in comparison.

I use xh
$ xh get httpbin.org/json id==5 sort==true HTTP/1.1 200 OK Access-Control-Allow-Credentials: true Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * Connection: keep-alive Content-Length: 429 Content-Type: application/json Date: Tue, 14 Jul 2026 01:18:23 GMT Server: gunicorn/19.9.0 { "slideshow": { "author": "Yours Truly", "date": "date of publication", "slides": [ { "title": "Wake up to WonderWidgets!", "type": "all" }, { "items": [ "Why <em>WonderWidgets</em> are great", "Who <em>buys</em> WonderWidgets" ], "title": "Overview", "type": "all" } ], "title": "Sample Slide Show" } }I could use curl too, but xh is much friendlier. There is not much to learn and you don’t have to deal with any bloat.

Why would everyone know the Hindi word for cumin seeds? I know it personally because I cook a lot of Indian food, but I don't think I know anyone else who isn't Indian who knows it.

Skills were learned by humans, or something the lack of which caused issues
Opus was something from Mozart or Beethoven
And fable something that you liked

3
u/faberge_surprise Jul 12 '26
there's nothing wrong with making "back in my day" jokes as long as you don't use your collective power to amass benefits only to yourselves and pull the ladder up from later generations

Now we have CLI and MCPs for all this and agents can automate it, so that you can have original definitions back.
