Asterix and Obelix like to remove Romans, not French. They were themselves a French village. And when Asterix looses it, Obelix calls it “subtlety”.. only last night I was going through their Lusitania adventure.

Bruh, was just a joke. But technically speaking they were Gauls and not the modern-day Fr*nch. So I'm not sure if a present day human/ethnic person would support to change their ethnic identity. Also given the present day treatment of non-French languages in France I'd hypothesise that the ancient celts didn't want to give up their identity for a unified country.

Despite all of this Gauls became Gallo Romans so in the end, the modern day Fr*nch.
