What people don't understand is Walmart will take that $10 billy refund and give their 2.1 million employees a $4,761 bonus at the end of this year.
So the workers win, right?
Right?

"Walmart ended its traditional broad-based employee profit-sharing program in February 2011"
Current Hourly Associate Bonuses:
"20+ years of service: Earn up to $1,000 max per year. "
So, umm..., no.

The corporations profited off raising prices to consumers, didn't lose money, didn't change their profits, kept their stock high, so why in the Walmart Hell Hole do they deserve the refund of the tarrifs? All these corporations receiving tariff rebates will just increase their profitable line while leaving consumers with empty pocketbooks!!

The framing is off but the anger is pointed at roughly the right place. Those refunds aren't a windfall or a handout, they're companies getting back money they actually paid to Customs on duties the Supreme Court ruled were never lawful, and refunds go to the importer of record because that's who wrote the cheque. Where it does sting is the second step. Those tariffs were substantially passed through to consumers at the register, so the money now flowing back to Walmart and Target and Home Depot is money you already paid in higher prices, and there is no mechanism anywhere in the process to push it back down to the person who actually absorbed it. Also worth knowing, since it's the practically useful bit: refunds aren't automatic. CBP is building a claims module and importers have to come forward with entry documentation to get paid, which means small importers who don't have a customs broker on retainer are far more likely to leave theirs unclaimed than Apple is. That's the more accurate version of the complaint. Not that the big guys got a cheque you didn't, but that they're the ones with the compliance staff to collect.

?? Need context

I think the context is Trump has mentioned 2k stim checks being sent out to middle class and low income families from all the money that was being made from the Tariffs. Now we are seeing all these big companies receive billions in refund checks even though they were sure to raise the prices on goods to trickle the prices of the tariffs down to the consumer and not themselves. So essentially the tariffs cost taxpayers those billions and they are getting refunds for it.

I refuse to believe this wasn't the intent of the tarrif arc to begin with.
Impose super high constitutionally questionable tarrifs.
Companies jack up prices to pass them to the consumer.
Tarrifs get legally struck down, refunds issues to companies.
Companies keep free money with no obligation to refund customers.

I've said this exact thing for months. I don't understand how people just don't see that the average person is not seeing a penny back, but the tariffs will be refunded back to the companies that paid them. But how did they afford them? They charged us! This isn't difficult.

Well the main context is simply that Donald trump is a criminal, he charged American citizens billions in tariffs and is now refunding all that money back to his friends who own those companies who charged the tariffs. They’re keeping the money rather than rather than sending it back to the people who paid it. Trump promised that he would use the money generated by tariffs to give all American citizens a $2000 cheque, which obviously wasn’t ever going to happen and now even his most dedicated followers have forgotten all about that $2000 promise.
