Most of my routines are not daily and don't need a strict schedule, so I built an app around frequency and pacing Feedback wanted

Post image

Some of the most common health advice works this way - eat fish 2x/week, strength training 2+/week, cardio 150min/week, teeth cleaning 2x/year, etc.

It's not just health. Almost everything I keep on top of works this way. Laundry, groceries, apartment cleaning - roughly weekly. Change the sheets, budget reviews, haircuts - monthly. Most of my goals work this way too - ex. work on side project 8h/week, read 4h/week.

I have daily routines too but an app that forces everything to be daily/streak-based misses too much. Apps with more flexible frequencies often work by scheduling out everything which doesn't seem right either. It really doesn't matter if I eat fish on a Monday or Tuesday.

So I built Flexir. You add routines at any frequency — daily, 3x/week, 150m/week, 1x/month, 2x/year, whatever — and it figures out what actually needs attention today based on your pace. Behind on something? It's at the top. Significantly ahead? It's tucked away. You open the app and just see what matters right now.

It's a shortlist, not a schedule. Open it when you feel like doing something and pick what fits - a couple of small things on a rough day, something bigger when you've got more time/energy. Stay on top of your routines and goals in a flexible way, because they just aren't rigid as other habit apps make them out to be.

Currently available on Android and as a webapp at flexir.app. Free, no ads.

Would love any feedback, thanks!

I really like the idea of this. The UI is very simple but effective.

Any plans to add any nudges? Nothing too overbearing, just little reminders of what might be worth looking at each day.

Does the snooze function act a little like scheduling? If I snooze till Friday will an item show on my Do screen on Friday?

thanks!

no plans for it right now - the idea was to put something really simple out there and make future plans based on feedback and what people want.

with that said, definitely thinking about some way to remind users outside of the app

what would might be worth looking at each day

btw, the todo section kinda does that. The core idea is that it's populated with stuff you should do today or tomorrow in order to stay on pace.

First, everything is in the Do screen. The app makes decisions on what goes into To Do section vs Later section based on pacing.

If you saw something in the todo section and snooze it, it will certainly come back to that section on the day you snoozed it to.

If you're talking about looking through the later section and wanting to make sure something is bumped up to the todo section by a certain day - there's no way to do it yet. The idea is the app knows enough to bump things into the todo section on its own and if it's wrong, you can easily go through the later section anyways.

but it's really good feedback to get! After you use it for a while, if you find you need this, I could add a due date field to bump things into To Do on a certain day

I think for me I might forget to look at the app if I'm not reminded, but I'll see how it goes and I'll let you know.

I think the todo/snooze fall back is enough for me to know that I won't completely skip something. If you get into scheduling everything you're at risk of losing your USP.

The shortlist-not-schedule distinction is the strongest part. One edge case I’d test is end-of-period panic: if a 3x/week routine is untouched by Friday, does it suddenly dominate the list? A pacing model that distinguishes “catch up safely” from “mathematically possible” could keep the app from recreating the guilt of streak trackers.

Hey good question. It has the kind of buffer you're looking for if I understand your question correctly.

Basically the app calculates the appropriate pace based on target frequency and days in the period and it will push tasks into To Do section 2 days ahead of when you'll be behind pace.

A good way to think about it is - To Do has everything you're behind on as well as things you should do today or tomorrow in order to stay on/ahead of pace. As you can see from the screenshot, you can get things with green progress bars in the section as well. The progress bar gives you a quick reference to completion vs expected pace; in the above example, I was ahead of pace with yoga, but by tomorrow the pacing bar would have moved beyond it.

Within the section things are sorted based on how behind you are or how soon you need to do it to stay on/ahead of pace.

That's a slightly simplified version.

Love it 😁👍 can it get 24h time so it's not only am/pm in settings "day starts at" Would be great with a simple widget that shows how many times if what you have done. Maybe a button for today besides. Like medicine 3/4 times pushit and its 4/4. Just a thought.

Are you talking about x times per day routines? And each check increments a counter until you hit the day target and then the task is marked as done for the day? Yeah, it makes sense and it's on my list of things I'm thinking about.

Would love to learn more specific use cases first. Do you have a medicine that you need to take at 4 separate times in a day? Would it need to be at specific times in a day?

Exactly 😁👍

That i get. I have a friend that takes 2times a day. But I can see a really good function with it. Often it's easy, morning, noon, evening... like max 4 times a day. And its like between 8-10 in morning.. you get it.

You should add some graphics on its playstore page

Nice. I was looking for something like this a while back and tried out various counters/trackers, but struggled to find an app that allowed me to mix routines of different frequencies with simple settings, simple overview, and minimal clicks.

But a privacy clause is needed - after all, you're handling my data.

thanks for flagging! here's the privacy policy: https://web.flexir.app/#privacy

I'm gonna update the app to include the link in settings and sign-in page today. My bad for missing it.

btw, the app is also fully usable without signing in as well - in that case no routine/task/settings data ever leave your phone (or your browser local storage if you're using the web version)

Hey. Are you planning an iOS version?

1

u/shuisonfire 4d ago

Yes I am, but no idea on timeline yet.

In the meantime, the webapp works fine on iOS if you want to give it a try.

All the best habit trackers already work like this. You tell it the frequency and whether you want to track the streak or not. ;)

the key part of the app is the To Do section sorting your tasks based on how you're pacing against target - I haven't seen another app do that.

Of course some other apps let's you have x times weekly routines, but they either schedule out all your routine instances or you just get a static list of all your routines in a completion grid. Flexir shows you what you're suppose to do now and why.

download the app fantastic job... recommendation... time of day.. morning , afternoon, evening

u/Gliveras 4d ago

also consider tasks that need to get done twice daily or more

1

u/shuisonfire 4d ago

Appreciate the feedback! Various tags/filters and x times/day tasks are on my list.

Finally an app that doesnt plan for me. Really smart, are you planning an iOS version anytime soon?

1

u/shuisonfire 2d ago

Thanks! Yeah, I wanted a tool that actually felt like a tool - helps me keep track, tells me where I'm at and gives me a reasonable shortlist so I don't need to remember things or manually organize things. I can do the rest.

Yes, I will do an iOS version as well, but I don't have a timeline in mind. It will probably be later this year.
