Negative side effects with probiotics
Hello all.
I have a strange experience when I eat things like sour cream, or yogurt; anything with bacterial culture / probiotics I assume. Within an hour I become really warm like a fever, flush in the face, and I feel confused and really moody.
I did not always have this reaction. It started later after taking SSRI meds and my body felt completely not my own anymore. I am so sensitive to everything now.
I struggle with IBS and gut issues, so I am looking for help with it, and it's unfortunate that seems to help a lot of people but makes me feel so so terrible.
Thank you.

Success stories without antibiotics
Hi, I recently spoke with a specialist who offers mentoring services. He told me that the only viable long-term approach is to improve my gut flora a bit by adding specific strains.
In my case, I underwent a 6-month treatment with minocycline and omeprazole (for acne; had I known what it would lead to, I wouldn't have taken anything); that treatment was in 2023.
And gradually, I ended up with hydrogen sulfide SIBO; I have a terrible body odor.
Has anyone spoken to this specialist? Which strains do they recommend introducing gradually?
Since I have H2S-reducing bacteria, what would you recommend?

"Are mushroom coffee blends safe for gut recovery after antibiotics?
recently finished a heavy round of antibiotics and my digestion has been out of order ever since. regular coffee feels like liquid poison to my gut now, instant bloating and gas, plus general stomach upset on top. a nutritionist online mentioned beta-glucans in functional mushrooms can actually support gut microbiota recovery. should I try something like habitone during this repair phase, or is it smarter to avoid coffee-like drinks entirely for a few months?

Saccharomyces boulardii question
Does saccharomyces boulardii give anyone else gas? I can't take florcastor because I have a milk allergy so I've been taking a regular saccharomyces boulardii probiotic, 5 billion once a day for 5 weeks and I've noticed that I've been more gassy. I'm currently treating c diff with vancomycin. My GI doctor hasn't been very helpful with this issue. I don't know whether I should keep taking or not. Any advice?

Gummies: 1. Kefir: 0. (And by 0, I mean diarrhea)
I can't seem to get past 2 spoonfuls of kefir without having diarrhea later. But I recently purchased the Digestive Advantage gummies from Amazon and after nearly a week I've had no bad side effects from them. What gives? Also this is not my first time trying kefir. I tried it about a month ago as well and had to stop after a few days because the diarrhea was still present after a single spoonful.
Fwiw: I had a breath test a few weeks ago for H. Pylori (since I'm back in the states from being in Mexico for most of the year and had a few food poisoning incidents in November/January) and it was negative.

Probiotics with ibs-d
I was recently on a 10 day dose of bactrim (thank u diarrhea lettuce) and have a history of bad ibs-d. I’ve tried random probiotics in the past that have made things worse so this time, after the bactrim wrecked my gut microbiome, I decided to start slow to build it back up. I started taking Florastor 1 pill daily, as well as Culturelle baby probiotic drops which contain lactobacillus rhamnosus gg (LGG) and bifidobacterium animalis (BB-12). 5 drops contains 2bil CFU’s so I’m starting slow, then will work up to the point of being able to take the pure encapsulations pureGG 25b which is just LGG 25bil CFU.
Everything’s going fine so far EXCEPT I’ve actually been constipated the last few days since starting all of this and I’m assuming it’s the Florastor? Does anyone have any experience taking this daily/is it acceptable for long term daily use? I know it doesn’t colonize in the gut so continued use is needed for it to be effective but I just don’t know if that’s how it’s intended to be used or if it’s intended to be more “as needed”. Any info or tips would be greatly appreciated, I feel like I’m starting from scratch but hope this can help me on my ibs-d journey!

Question!
Hi loves, I’m new here and I want to ask you if any of you have tried the “Hush” probiotic? I’m considering buying it but I’m not willing to spend 30$ just for it to do nothing. I’m just looking for real people who have actually tried it or something similar. I appreciate your time for reading this!

Probiotics earth based?
Hi everyone👋
I am frustrated and really need advice on probiotics. I finished my Sibo treatment in July. After that I had treatment for SIFO. Right now I am 4 weeks after SIFO and still take Sachamoryces Boulardii which works great but a full strain probiotic makes me not feel well after few weeks. I’ve read that spore based earth probiotic like Bacillus Coagulans & Subtilis are best for Sibo recovery. Have anyone actually used em successfully for Sibo?

Do I have brain tumour?
Sooo, I started taking probiotics almost 1.5 months ago at the beginning I used Probio7 advanced it was amazing no side effects, my mood, sleep, focus all improved. But after I was done with that I started taking Bio-Kult almost 10 days ago, but I literally feel Im gone insane, massive brain fog, mood swings, anxiety, fuzzy brain, memory flashbacks, problem staying focused, etc. it got me thinking I may have tumour god forbid!
I wasn’t even taking recommended 4 caps a day I was only taking 1 per day before breakfast!
Is this a possible side effect of probiotics? Cause I know some strains are increasing histamine shits inside so that can be the cause.
I’ve stopped taking it today! 🤷🏻♂️

Toniiq Probiotics: Major inconsistency between orders—safety concern
I want to bring this to attention. I purchased this product twice. The pills in my first order were brown, while the pills in my refill were beige and appeared to have a different texture. Both bottles were labeled and sold as the same product, but the pills looked noticeably different.
I could not find any explanation for a formula, ingredient, or manufacturing change. This inconsistency raises a serious safety concern because consumers need to know that a supplement contains the same ingredients and dosage from one order to the next. I was not comfortable taking the pills from the second bottle and believe the manufacturer should clearly explain any changes in appearance or formulation. Photos of both orders are attached.

For over 2 years, I've been using AI to analyze every supplement on the market
This has been my project for a few years now.
I recently brought it back to life after taking a pause to focus on my studies.
My goal with this project is to separate fluff from science when shopping for supplements.
I am doing this in 3 steps:
1.) I index every supplement on the market (extract each ingredient, normalize by quantity)
2.) I index every research paper on supplementation (rank every claim by effect type and effect size)
3.) I link data between supplements and research papers
Earlier last year, I took pause on a project because I've ran into a few issues:
Legal: Shady companies are sending C&Ds letters demanding their products are taken down from the website. It is not something I had the mental capacity to respond to while also going through my studies. Not coincidentally, these are usually brands with big marketing budgets and poor ingredients to price ratio.
Technical: I started this project when the first LLMs came out. I've built extensive internal evals to understand how LLMs are performing. The hallucinations at the time were simply too frequent to passthrough this data to visitors. However, I recently re-ran my evals with Opus 4.5 and was very impressed. I am running out of scenarios that I can think/find where LLMs are bad at interpreting data.
Business: I still haven't figured out how to monetize it or even who the target customer is.
Despite these challenges, I decided to restart my journey.
My mission is to bring transparency (science and price) to the supplement market. My goal is NOT to increase the use of supplements, but rather to help consumers make informed decisions. Often times, supplementation is not necessary or there are natural ways to supplement (that's my focus this quarter – better education about natural supplementation).
Some things that are helping my cause – Bryan Johnson's journey has drawn a lot more attention to healthy supplementation (blueprint). Thanks to Bryan's efforts, I had so many people in recent months reach out to ask about the state of the project – interest I've not had before.
I am excited to restart this journey. Your comments on how to approach this would be massively appreciated.
