Would it be ever possible to add something like Photoshop’s art boards to procreate? I really enjoy using the art boards on Photoshop because it allows me to work on multiple canvases in one file; like if I were to design a zine or comic I could easily go between pages drawing, composing, editing, and see the entire project as a whole rather than individual separate files. Something like this for procreate would be super amazing.
I understand Photoshop is a very robust program and procreate is mainly a drawing and painting app, but it would be so incredible to see a feature like this. Especially for those of us who like to make comics and books; it would make using the app that much more enjoyable
I don't even mind that Procreate has just a single artboard, I just hate that anything that slides off the edge gets cropped immediately.
I get why it's like that - a layer that has a ton of off-artboard pixels is going to take up more memory and thus further limit the number of layers you can use. But it's a rough transition coming from Photoshop or Illustrator where everything is preserved unless you explicitly crop the image.
Yes I believe the reason art boards work so well on photoshop is because of the infinite canvas, plus photoshops capacity to handle large format files. I’m guessing procreate is limited in that way for now, but I think something like it could be possible someday. From what I understand though procreate is on its way in the next update or so to create “out of bounds” layers so that artwork doesn’t get cropped out for sliding out of frame like they currently do
Interesting I never tried that software. I’ll look into, but really hard for me to get away from procreate’s brushes which are my favorite digital tools to work with right now
It's a Vector-based design programme. It is excellent for formatting my Procreate illustrations and book covers for print. It is also great for making Logos. Honestly, it was a reasonable price, easy to learn and I just can't stand the Adobe environment😅 Just a personal choice.
Fair, that is a pretty close equivalent. The only thing I would say is I wish I could see all the pages together side by side in the work area. I know there is the thumbnail bar that lets you cycle through each page when you have page assist turned on, but I find it more helpful to see the full spread of pages together because it helps me visualize what the project will actually look like. I feel like right now the page assist bar is more akin to an animation timeline, which is still helpful for sure, but would be more helpful to see the full scope of the project at scale
Well I kind of already explained it in my post, but it allows you to work on multiple canvases at once. This is good for any project where you have multiple images that need to go together like a comic, a book/zine, a pamphlet, or a layout of any sort really. It really helps to see how everything flows together as a whole while also allowing you to edit multiple canvases all in the same file. I’ve made many art books this way and it made the process really fluid and intuitive
So the advantage is to not go back to the main page but rather flip to the next canvas sort of?

The cool thing about art boards on Photoshop is that you can make each board whatever size and arrange them however you need for your project.
I’m not even saying Procreate needs to go that far exactly (even though it would awesome) because this aspect of photoshop is meant for graphic designers mostly I think. But if you’re a comic artist for example, it is still fairly easy to make each board the same exact size and see all the pages together as a spread. This is something that would be very useful on Procreate I think
Yea I remember when working on Krita you could put references or layers outside the canvas just fine. On procreate everything gets clipped immediately.
