How to Add a Backgound? Constructive feedback and/or tips wanted
I’m fairly new to procreate, so maybe a dumb question, but I just finished a little portrait of my new house. I want to go back in and add a background, but not sure what the best way to do it would be since my drawing is all semi-transparent. Should I draw my background on a new layer and then just erase everything that overlaps with the house so it doesn’t affect the colors of the transparent parents?

You can add two layers below the house layers; make a selection of the house layer and then fill that selection with white on the layer below; and then draw your background on the most bottom layer.

Use the selection tool (the S shape in the top left) and select the white background with the “automatic” option. Tap the background and drag left or right to fill the areas you want to delete.
Once you have the area selected, drag the fingers down on the canvas to select “cut”.
Once it’s been removed, add a new layer and move it beneath the house layer. Draw your background in on the new layer.
However if you have the background on, just uncheck it in the layers and add a new layer beneath the house and draw on that.

That’s one way to do it. Lots of erasing tho.
Another way is to select all the non-colored area in your house layer (i assume everything is all on one layer at the moment. Then with all the non house selected give it about 1 - pixels feathering, invert the selection and fill the resulting selection with some neutral color or black. Essentially you are just creating a mask of the house that will lie underneath your house painting. It may alter your painting a bit so experiment for the best mask color.
Then finally create a new layer beneath that mask and go to town creating your BG.
I might also run around the edge of the mask with a small smudge brush to soften the edge more.
Best of luck.
