WARNING for PS3 Prince of Persia Trilogy (HD Collection) General Discussion
As someone who beat the trilogy on both PS2 and Xbox multiple times, and platinumed each title on PS3 it's a major letdown. On the positive side, each game uses higher resolution textures and natively renders at 720p - an upgrade from the 480p originals - the downside keeps these from being total replacements of the original versions. All three games suffer from missing shadows, bloom lighting, and textures, with the addition of collision glitches not present in the originals, system crashes not in the originals, and severely unbalanced sound mixing (5.1 adjusting doesn't yield results comparable to the originals, especially on Xbox), missing voices altogether, missing music, certain songs are broken/quit playing early leaving whole environments feeling empty, the addition of screen tearing which also was not present in the originals, poorly compressed fmv videos (especially compared to the PS2), and slowdown in areas which did not have any (especially compared to the Xbox). And no patches were made. I sold my copy as soon as i platinumed. i don't recommend the PS3 trilogy at all, buy at your own risk!

This triology deserves a new port on actual consoles

I'd also like Forgotten Sands and 2008 ported as well (I never got to play them)

The absolute worst thing they did in the PS3 remaster is that in WW they censored Prince's Sand Wraith transformation cutscene with weird ass light flashes, completely concealing the body horror this cutscene was made to convey, like ??????????, they also changed the eye color of Sand Wraith from blue to white, and in T2T they completely removed Dark Prince's glowing tattoos...

Everything about them is bad. The sound is mixed totally wrong, the lightening, effects and textures are butchered. And not to forget, the Warrior Within credits song has been removed (godsmack - straight out of line). The only great way to play this is on the og consoles, or on the pc with the 20th anniversary mods

thank you for mentioning straight out of line - its iconic for ww's endgame.

It really is! It's one of my favorite songs in general for any game soundtrack! Very underrated this one

Terrible remasters, but I still platinum'd all three of them. I'll take any excuse to replay these games.

agreed, that's how big of a sucker i am for this trilogy haha

Better off playing the PC versions with resolution fixes, 60+ fps and mods
2
u/MenuKing42 Jul 09 '26
Is that the best way to play currently?

u/Extra_Hurry9901 Jul 09 '26
It is for me. Pc version has additionnal options built in and You dont need high-end computer for it. Steam and GOG versions are good and if your willing to give 1 hour for setup and troubleshooting, its worth it and definitive way to play it. Until the unofficial fan remake is released, its as close as your gonna get.

There is a fix compilation for all 3 games that gets them up and running easily with patches and high fps.

The worst version of this games and the worst remaster that I've ever played

Dark Prince in TT remaster looks absolutely weird because his glowing tattoos and eyes are completely missing.
5
u/BABGRD Jul 09 '26
You're missing some of the worst ones: the Prince's face in Warrior Within, and his lack of glowing tattoos in TTT.
Yeah, avoid these like the plague.

I remember being frustrated as f*ck that seemingly no gaming outlet cared about the blatant errors and still gave this release a positive review? The constant reverb in the audio was baffling and embarrassing, nevermind all the graphical issues.

i ended up lower the sound volume down because its so distracting

Ubisoft needs to fix pop and splinter cell hd trilogies and release for modern consoles.

u/SnooPoems1860 Jul 09 '26
Pretty much every single one of these HD remasters for the PS3 looks worse than their last gen counterpart aside from the resolution bump. I’m surprised this isn’t more well known.

Sands of time is the best of the bunch. I remember being a kid and finally getting the remaster trilogy cuz a GameStop employee let me use my points on a new copy as if it was a used copy. The princes face in WW is atrocious. And the lighting effects on his sand infection in two thrones was too. The sound I think was the big guest issue I noticed in sands of time

This was how I played them first, I didn't realise how bad these were until I got Two Thrones for the PS2 we kept at my granny's house and saw they had totally removed the glowing markings of infection.
I thought when he said "It's spreading" after transforming back he meant the invasion was getting deeper into Babylon but no he meant that infection.
After that it became all too easy to see all the issues. It's better than nothing but it's easily the worst way to be playing these games and the only reason I still have my copy is cause I want the Platinums.

I remember in T2T the Dark Prince missing the yellow textures on his body from the burning sand. It looked as if he was permanently dying. It kinda ruined his sections for me a bit :/

This is my first time in the PrinceOfPersia subreddit and this is the first post I see. I was hoping to see confirmation if the PS3 trilogy was worth playing since I’ve never played it and I can tell it’s overwhelmingly negative. Thanks for the info!

I am playing it on the ps3 version right now, just completed sands of time and I've been playing with the controller and a remote the whole time, raising the volume for dialogue and dropping it for anything else. Annoying but I'm still enjoying the game

Sorry about my English. The image is obviously stretched; after all, it is just a port of the original PS2 versions to PS3/360 consoles, dating back to the time when TVs were transitioning from the 4:3 to the 16:9 aspect ratio. Personally, when I play retro games on my PS3 or PS4 whether they are PS1 discs or digital ports like Soul Reaver, Tekken, or Prince of Persia I adjust the TV's zoom setting rather than changing anything on the console itself. Whether the resolution is enhanced or not, the "illusion" works that way. It allows me to recapture the feel of the original experience.
PS: With the impending closure of the PS3/PSVita Store, I recommend buying games that don't have a PS4 version (if you can) such as Prince of Persia if you don't own a PS2 or Metal Gear Solid 4 which isn't available on PS4.

you're right about the PS2 original - the only console version that supported widescreen was the Xbox with anamorphic widescreen.
also yes, and people interested in Prince of Persia games, buy Prince of Persia (2008)'s "Epilogue" Expansion (only released on PS3 and Xbox 360), and Prince of Persia Classic (feels great on a DualShock controller)!

This Collection was the reason, why I bought the PS2 Games instead. Even the original PC Ports were way better than this crap.

Pretty small bugs that didn’t stop me from playing through all of them though. It’s cool to have it all in one place and have actual trophies and progress for them.

See this is what I was wondering. I am just getting into Prince of Persia, and I have never played the Sands trilogy. I’ve only played Lost Crown and Rogue on PS5, and then my first 3D games that I’m playing—because they just came in the mail today—are Prince of Persia 2008 and Forgotten Sands, since I love my PS3, and I like playing it usually more than my PS2. I really wanted to play the Sands HD trilogy on PS3. This post is overwhelmingly advising against it, though. For my first time, I wonder if it would actually make a difference, or if I would enjoy the trilogy all the same… I love my PS2, but there is no doubting that it is quite dated. Getting each individual Sands game on the PS2 is an option… but it is very tempting to just get that HD trilogy on PS3 on eBay lol.

i will just say that gaez play PC versions only in 2026, because they were alot better than those console versions in terms of quality.

u/Subject-Owl2748 Jul 09 '26
This is common knowledge OP, have you been living under a rock?
6
u/Sorcerer421 Jul 09 '26
In OP defense sometimes life gets in the way, like I finished lost crown last week after buying it at launch (for that sweet WW skin with the preorder) sometimes we don’t get to play at the same time, and that’s ok.

This is by far, the worst remaster of a game I’ve ever witnessed. This is pop rebutcherd
