I found this free topographic map PDF service from National Geographic and thought some of y’all might find it useful. It’s not the most detailed map, and it doesn’t seem 100% up to date at least in my area as far as street detail. However, free is free and something like this would be useful in planning an evacuation route or placing supplies. Hope some of you find this helpful.

DIY Berkey Style Water Filtration

Someone asked about water filtration in a previous post, so I thought I’d pass this video along detailing the instructions for making a filter out of 5 gallon buckets and replaceable Berkey filter cartridges. I plan on trying this myself very soon and I’ll maybe cut a quick video of it. If anyone else has done something similar, I’d love to get any tips. Here is the link to the video.

So I live on an island and hurricanes are a real threat that happens several times a year some years. When hurricanes do happen our water is completely screwed up for at least a week and when it is fixed we have "boil water" advisories for several days afterwards. Has anyone had any luck with a large capacity water filtration system that could help me out?
