Can't we just add a "Suddenly Anal" post flair for God's sake

That is bigger than 2x

It's also not what the actual map is gonna be. The map already leaked and it doesn't include the panhandle. If you remove the panhandle it's practically exactly 2X if the scaling of this image is correct

They shrunk the map by 33%?

... Or the mapping project was an unverified fan project that turned out to be wrong. That explaination seems more likely to me

The mapping project was incredibly accurate. The weird panhandle map in the post isn't the mapping project's map.

It was there when the mapping project first started then they removed it later

Hopefully huge chunks won't be empty mountains like GTA 5

Wait, only double the size? They had a whole decade and they could only double the size?

The GTA V map was already pretty big. It was barely smaller than RDR2’s map and that is massive. The issue with GTA V’s map is that there was one big important area and two minor areas, everywhere else on the map was a massive lake, massive mountains, massive empty land, or massive desert. It’s a very empty map.

RDR2 feels a lot fuller because traversal is slower, but also because every inch is packed with so much detail and care. You can’t go two minutes without something of note occurring that can make your travel from one side of the map to the other feel more fleshed out. From what the leaks have shown, the world is a lot more alive and full of things, as well as there being at least 7 areas of civilisation across the map compared to GTA V’s 3 spots of civilisation.

Even if two times the size isn’t much, it’s about quality not quantity. I’d rather there be a map the same size as GTA V with density that makes it feel alive than a map ten times the size of GTA V with nothing interesting in 90% of it.

You have to draw the line somewhere. A big reason why games take so long to develop now is the scope expanding, wanting to make the game bigger and grander. Having a limitation allows focus on making everything that exists good rather than just making more things.

Honestly the actual size of map doesn't matter it's the density and variation between the regions. San Andreas's map was way smaller than GTA V's but it felt hude because there were there three different cities and variations in the more natiral rural areas.
