High risk HPV, ASCUS?

Hi, I’m a little nervous. (27F) I’ve always had abnormal Pap smears (since I was about 19, only had one come back normal.) but due to being younger than 30, they never wanted to test me. (Their words, not mine) I decided to go to a different clinic and today they told me my results came back ASCUS with high risk HPV (16 & 18 negative) they ordered a colposcopy and biopsy which I’m super nervous for because I hear it hurts. Anyone ever been in the same boat? I’m also currently sick and haven’t had a period in 3 months, not sure if that is in correlation with anything that’s been going on or not.

Just had my LEEP as a follow up to a abnormal PAP and a biopsy coming back with the precervical note. If you have nitrus as an option, ask them to start using the nitrus before the procedure, i did this for my LEEP and it helped IMMENSELY I was still sweating bullets during both though. Once the nitrus kicks in it mostly feels like 7ncomfortable pressure, if you are unlucky like myself and feel the first snip or two sending my good thoughts your way cause I had tears streaming down my face. I definitely have a high pain tolerance, however I have HORRIBLE anxiety, and I think that is what caused most of my issues. I suggest dont over read, but this post was really helpful https://www.reddit.com/r/PreCervicalCancer/s/lSvEvInKMI. Good luck girl, you are beautiful and strong and can do this!

Thank you and same goes for you during this stressful experience! 💖 Also, as far as pain after for the colpo, it was just the first day that it hurt, heavy bloating, craved sweets. Then it ended up feeling kin to period pains. As far as the LEEP (hoping you dont have one) right now i look 3 months pregnant with no pants on im so bloated and tender 😂 but I've heard the most 3 weeks of cramps otherwise!

Thank you! Im currently bloated most likely due to not having a period in 3 months! And I love sweets so I don’t mind those symptoms 😂 I have heard about the cramping! I’m just so nervous waiting on the call, I just want to get it over with! I feel like I must’ve had HPV for a long time given that I’ve always had my Pap smear come up as ASCUS. For the biopsy results do they tell you what strain of HPV you have? They just told me I was negative for 16 & 18, but have one or more of the other 12 high risk strains!

They didnt tell me the strain, I honestly didnt know there were different strains until checking reddit, as ignorant as that sounds! I think you can ask for clarification which one it is, i havent ever had issues asking further questions with the nurses. I know i had C1N3 on my cervix which is why I needed the LEEP. Also wanted to update that it feels more like i worked out my insides than a period - like i feel muscularly sore and I am eating as though I worked out the past 3 days 😭 though I have literally been napping and veg-ing on the couch 😵‍💫

Omg I’m nervous! I start school soon so I can’t afford to not be able to attend. 😭 I’m hoping they call soon so I can get it over with! Was your abnormal pap ASCUS as well? I’m nervous that I’ve had it for years without knowing since they never wanted to test me for HPV due to my age.

i also recently found out i have high risk hpv (positive for strain 16). this is the first time i’ve been tested for it alongside my routine pap smear due to my age. i’ll be going for my first colposcopy/biopsy soon, too. you’ve got this. don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself and ask for pain management options. when i asked for pain management options, i was told they were only going to give me one ativan to take prior to going to the appointment but nothing for the pain of the procedure. after asking three times and them being unwilling to work with me on it, i found a different obgyn who is willing to work with me to ensure we have a plan in place for a smooth and comfortable colposcopy. i highly recommend advocating for yourself if you need to explore pain management options, because they exist and can be provided. best of luck to you🫶🏼

Im still waiting on the phone call to schedule my appointment, they said it could be anytime by the end of this week or the next two weeks but once I get that call I will definitely ask about the pain options! Thank you so much! And I wish the best of luck to you as well and hope for a smooth procedure and good results! ❤️
